just found where you could add system ram in settings to my Vanta Properties...Open GL settings and Direct 3D (textures in PCI mode). I did not notice any difference when I upped these...what are they suppose to do for a 16MB card?

They're for when you have loads of really huge textures, or maybe triple buffering. Newer software textures (AVP2 etc.) might spill out of ones video ram, and into this. It's just like AGP port size, but not as quick.
With a vanta it probably won't make much difference, since you'll never run anything at a high enough detail setting to max out your video ram.
In short, if you've got enough everything will be peachy. More will make no difference, since it won't be used. If you don't have enough, fps will plummet as it has to fetch textures off the hard disk.
