so my 5900 ultra is getting old...really old. the thing cant even handle oblivion on lowest settings at 800x600 res...time for an upgrade. i know the best one nvidia made was the 7900 or 7950(i forget) but i cant seem to find those anywhere for a decent price(200+ for an old card??? i can get an 8800 for that money:screwy:)

any cards that are readily available that are significant upgrades from my card...or should i not waste my money and get a new system

if you are tying to just upgrade the gpu and stick with agp ATi is the way to go with their hd 3xxx series cards. Nvidia stopped making agp cards after the 7 series like you mentioned but ATi still kept on making them for awhile longer.

If you have a frys near you I would recommend just upgrading your whole system. Also if you only want to play older games casually like obivion then go with agp but if you plan on playing current games then a system upgrade is in order

Newegg has quite a few new Radeon cards in AGP, I think even the HD4000 series have AGP versions.

For Nvidia, the best you're gonna find in AGP is the 6600GT. AGP cards are more expensive because they're much less produced that PCI-E cards, since they've been mostly discontinued. The more you produce, the lower the price.

The HD3850 is the best AGP card of all time I believe, I don't think any newer ones were made after that (Nvidia stopped at the 7950GT). It should allow you to play all modern games at low-medium settings.

Check the classifieds here on the forums, there are a few decent agp cards for sale... nVidia 6800gt or ultra, and ATi x1900xt iirc. They would be a better match to your system than a 3800 series card.
