I dont know that much about overclocking so hopefully someone can lead me in the right direction. Heres what i got: a PII 266 CPU and a Celeron 333. My motherboard will let me change the system bus to 66MHz or 100MHz and the multiplyer from 1.5-8.0x and have pc100 sdram. so which processor should i use to overclock and how much should i overclock it and still be safe?
thanx
i dont think that your cpus will ever handle FSB of 100MHz..

Hi robertrtl, welcome to the Forum,
I'm sorry, but like have just said Trap, your chips aren't good for a Fsb of 100Mhz, and generally on Intel chip's the Multiplier is locked and unlockable :( so only 75Mhz (suggested) & 83Mhz are fine, what kind of Mobo (Brand/Model) are you using?

mine Cel333 ran @500 using my ancient Asus P2V voltage 2,2V and with a big standard heatsink. :o
i pushed it up to 515 yesssa...bye bye modern overclockers
If u r sure that u have only 66 and 100 MHz FSB ..nothin.but u can check again and if there are some other settz its a whole different story ...
celly 333 is a fair bet for 500
To get a 366 to a 500 you'll probably have to improve the cooling.

If your board only allows 66mhz or 100mhz I suggest you get either CPUFSB or SoftFSB and give one of them a try for some soft overclocking.
Get yourself a nice big fat heatsink and some thermal paste and see if you can get that cele 333 running at 100Mhz FSB. Also if you have any way of adjusting the voltage then bump it up a notch or 2 for stability.

The multiplier may not be locked on that 266...some were not locked on P2 266 and 300 so try bumping the multiplier up a notch or 2 and you should be able to hit 300 or even 333. I've done it on several old systems sucessfully.

Well, if your Mobo permit to rise the Cpu voltage, you can consider to go with an high performance cooler like a GlobalWin Vos32 or an Alpha P3125 and Artic Silver II thermal paste and try to go with a Fsb of 100Mhz, even if I'm still very sceptic about the possible results.
If you are looking for fun, well it's fine, no probs, but not for the price/performance, it's more cheaper to go with a new Cpu.
I hope it helps you ;)
There were lots of old Celeron 333 that used to be overclocked using 100 FSB, but you will probably need better cooling and maybe a bump in voltage (like 2.2v).
