Core i7 and Games, Memory Testing 6GB vs 3GB

Back in April 2008 we tested 4GB vs 2GB. Now that the Core i7 memory offerings are different, we did more testing with 6GB vs 3GB. We got very similar results. Vista with 3GB on i7 is good but 6GB is much better. :beer:

could say that that higher density ram helped out with that(in some of the tests) vs 3 gigs. i too would like to see a 3gig vs 4gig but that would then turn it into a dual vs tri results as well.

I'll be rerunning every test I have done over the past month with 12GB soon.

Before I started the testing, I predicted that 3Gb would be a sweet spot between 2GB and 4GB and also on i7 have superior bandwidth. But, while it does have superior bandwidth, some of the games coupled with 64bit Vista really benefit from the density. Even at 2GB or so of overall memory usage with the 3GB configuration, the HD thrashing was very noticeable.

Do you mean on i7 or 4GB dual vs 3GB tri? Read AN804 for some 2 vs 4 insight. You can draw some conclusions from that.

yea, thats what i think he is asking, i know that is something i would like to see. would help narrow down if the wider ram width is helping or if it really is the extra ram the system is using. would you do a 3gig tri-channle vs 4gig dual channle for us? please!! i will buy ya a :soda: or :beer: if we ever meet! :)
