View Full Version : Which card for a 22" 16x10 monitor?
Right now I own a 7600GT and play on a 19" 1440x900 monitor. I'm very happy, no complaints, but would probably be appier with a 22" 16x10 monitor.
I'm not looking to play Crysis maxxed out. Actually, I'm not even looking to play it! Just games like Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, etc. with like 2-4x AA, 4X AF, etc.
I'm not a graphics ho (nothing wrong with that!). I don't need 8-16X AA and 16AF and all that. ;-) Just give me enough to make the graphics look good as long as my framerates kick butt. heck I've played long enough without AA!
So would one of those $150 512k cards suit me well? Or should I push towards $200 for the 9800 GTX ?
Thanks!

If you're looking @ $200 card, I would then look at the GTX 260 for a few bucks more...
Price after rebates is just over 200 bucks (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010380048+1305520548+106792634&Configurator=&Subcategory=48&description=&Ntk=&SpeTabStoreType=&srchInDesc=)...

Why not get an ATI HD 4850? Only around $160 from Newegg, and I imagine less if you look for a bargain.

Honestly the 9800GTX should do just fine on those games.

4850 for ~$135 or 260GTX for ~$200 if you can afford it.
Either will run those games fine at 1680x1050 w/ max settings (except Crysis...you'll have to settle for High-tweaked-DX9 settings there).

The 8800GTS 512MB (G92) in my sig, maxes out all my games at 1680x1050.
P.S. I don't own Crysis.

Or this for ~$100 if you need to conserve some cash.
Hmmm the ATI HD 4850? The only reason I'm hesitant about ATI is that in the past, and we're talking like more than 5 years ago, ATI drivers always seemed to be a pain and it seemed like games never supported ATI.
I will look into the 4850 then. Not worried about Crysis, don't even plan to play it. Just games like FC2, FO3, Dead Space, Left 4 Dead.
Sweet. $150ish card and a $200ish 22inch monitor is doable.
The 8800GTS 512 do they still offer them? I don't see them on New Egg last time I checked.

see your other thread, ati drivers are fine now. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=585372
you dont need to start 2 threads, make one threads in general GPU if you dont know what card to get.

I just ordered on of these. I am also upgrading from the 7600GT. I heard these were really amazing cards after doing research for a week, and at $110, you can't beat that. Maybe I can actually start folding around 5000 ppd now :)
