Hey all, ok heres my dilema, i have recently broken my GeIL black dragon 4gb and i wish to buy some quality RAM or Gaming ram for <$200. I would prefereably like some like the GeIL black dragon with no heat spreader so i can attach some ram coolers but i dont mind getting some Reaper X with the heat sink already attached. What ram would you guys buy based on quality, o/c abilities and cooling? thanks in advance

G-Skill is cheap and oc's heaps. but they come with heatspreaders already.
try some Corsair dominators as well. the heatspreaders on them are already really good.
Kingston Hyper X 1066mhz is also very very good. don't like the design of them though. but hey, good performance ;)
HI TONG! lol

??????? not in 2x2GB
If you buy GSkill 2x2GB, get the speed you need. They frequently don't OC much past spec.
Mushkin XP and Dominators OC very well and won't need extra cooling as they use Powerchip ICs and don't run hot.

Rich'[ard]

really? maybe that's just the 2x1GB modules then.
Powerchips are the best 4GB kits you can get i guess then. Dominators, Reaper, Reaper X etc.

i think i am gonna order these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231209

been hearin they OC well, been hearing they will hit 900Mhz with the same timings and 1.9v. theres another set like this rated for 900Mhz too and its voltage range is 2.0-2.1v with the same timings and its $10 more so it looks as if theyre the same sticks labled differently...acually heres the link to those http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231211

4-4-4-12 on both is pretty good to begin with if your not OCing them

i didnt say any thing about "promoss" and frankly i dont care about it if it costs that much.

any one that i have talked to that has it has managed 1066-1100 with tweaking and more voltage and they run pretty cool with those heat spreaders and for $50 shipped, thats pretty well for an OC
edit:
alright i ordered a pair of the DDR800 i linked to above i'll let you guys know how they are when i get em. i hopefully can break 3.6Ghz or at the least get a little more stable where i am at now with these, 4 1 gig sticks of 667 at ~770Mhz isnt too good to OC on

If you get those GSkill 800s to 1066, I'll buy you a drink.

That's a bold statement! What kind of drink :)?

Btw 18 is # 1, it would be good to specify specific timings and voltage. He could run it at 3.3v, 9-9-9-27 and trfc at 180. Although that will fry his RAM, but that would most likely cost more than your drink.

I got this set as a spare :http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231102

and tho they're only a 1gb kit, I got them running the same timings as my OCZ in my main rig:

5-5-5-15 2T with 2.2v @ 525 (DDR2 1050) and they run cool.

All I did was shut my main down, pull out the OCZ sticks and slap the Gskill's in, boot right up. I did'nt switch anything in the bios. No problems whatsoever. If these come in 2gb sticks they would rock!

you had to open your mouth huh?
well i cant run cas 9 any way but 3.3v is possible.

i was hopeing it would atleast get to portland today so it would ger here sooner but egg saver shipping kinda leaves it in the dark weither its UPS USPS or FedSex. on top of that the tracking number doesent work so i cant tell where its at.
it shipped the same day i ordered it so i know its atleast on its way but egg saver shipping for me usually takes any where from 2-4 days (yes i have got items in 2 days).

thats kind of half the fun to see where the package is. it makes it more fun when the progress says something like accident, derailment or aircraft failure.

Yeah but its also the most expensive down here. I have narrowed my choices down to either reaper X / reaper 1000mhz / or get the same GeIL black dragon as the ones i screwed up. What do you think?

What's your tRFC? Seems kinda slow to me. You should be able to hit 5-5-5-15.

Rich'[ard]
11-22-08, 02:38 AM
Blazing Fire, tRFC is on 60 atm. ever since i got it booted at 1066mhz, i haven't touched the timings. so you think i could do 5-5-5-15 on tRFC to 55?

Rich'[ard]
11-22-08, 02:43 AM
ey Tong, reaper X is almost as expensive as Corsair C5DF 8500 4GB. i found the Dominators at PCDIY without the Corsair fan for 180-ish. that's only 20 dollars more than the reaper X.

were just joking arround sheesh, why would the mods come did you report the posts or something?.... and besides other than my slang there wasnt any thing that wasnt spelled correctly

well i got my ram installed aaaannnnnnddddd its DOA...well one stick is, i tried it in all the slots....well that i could which is 3 out of 4 because of my heatsink and it wont fire with one piticular stick. i know these things happen BUT what makes me mad is....

#1 they apear to have been used my some one else, seals broken, finger prints and scratches (minor) on the sinks of the dead stick, the other stick is fine.
#2 i just spent a good ammount of time trying to remember my settings because the CMOS reloaded thing doesent work yet with the bios and it would boot with the one stick but not the other and when i put my old ram back in it wouldnt boot at all untill i reset everything and i then went back into the bios and had ti put all my "custom" settings back.

i also dont really have the patience for this **** when somethings obviously been used and returned.
