I have a Radeon 8500 and a crystal orb heatsink and all copper ramsinks. What's the prefered method of attachmnet to the card? The orb has pushpin holes but the card does not. Is Artic Alumina epoxy a good bet for the orb and ramsinks? On Arctic's website they state:

"Arctic Alumina Thermal Adhesive IS NOT intended to be used between a CPU and the CPU heatsink.
On a CPU, only use Arctic Silver Thermal Compound or Arctic Alumina Thermal Compound."

Does this mean that I should NOT use it to attach the orb to the GPU??

No what that means is that Alumina Epoxy shouldnt be used on a CPU die

Arctic Alumina adhesive will work great for you on the GPU and Crystal Orbage.

At the bottom of this article gives good details on Alumina adhesive instalation.

To remove the ATI heatsink place the card in an anti static baggie and put it in the freezer for 15-30 min.

Take a credit card and butt it up to the ati heatsink and take a butterknife placed on the credit card and that Ati heatsink will pop off easy.

Clean the ATI goop with Nailpolish remover that has acetone in it.

Alcohol will work but not as fast.

Thanks Sam, I was hoping you'd respond. thanks for the info I just ordered from the link you'd put up in another post. I'm at 7850 in the 3d marks now, I think with some more tweaking and oc'ing I should be able to bust 8500.

ghengisjam,

No problem mate, just be sure to take your time installing the Orbage and especially take care with the Ramsinks.

Dont forget, Prep the surfaces and use proper pressure

yep, I've already lapped the sinks and polished the bases. they look nice. I have a good non conductive clamp that has has a strain gage on it to tell me how much clamping force I'm applying(the fruits of being a tech):D , that and a little patience and I oughta be able to do a first rate job of modding this 8500. thanks for your help, it's muchly appreciated.
