Has anyone had any experience overclocking the Athlon XP 1700+? If so, how high could you get it, and what core voltage and multiplier were needed? I want to know if the spped increase possible is worth the trouble of unlocking the chip. Thanks a lot in advance.

I am an XP 1600+ and I can get it completely stable at 1638 10.5*156 1.850v. 1650 isn't stable. a 1700+ should be able to do 1700 around give or take.. Unlocking is good, but it takes a while.

Slick.

Welcome to the forums!!! Good luck getting out with your day intact!
If you want to know the OCs people have gotten with certain CPUs, try the PCU database (http://overclockers.cssftware.com/cpudb/index.cfm) on the front page. Unfortunately, many people who report their OCs forget to say what stepping/mobo/etc, but you can still get a good idea of what your chip can do.
Do you know your stepping (first 4 or 5 letters on the middle line and the first character on the next line on the CPU die, ie AKAA-9 in the pic)?

Hey slick,
You say that your 1600+ is @ 2000+, do you mean your comp thinks its a 2000+ or just you do?

It's at 1638mhz. It is recognized as an XP2000+ I know it isn't really at the real speed of one but it's recognized as an xp2000+

My 1700+ is runnig at 1650Mhz..Its not unlocked...I thought about trying to lower the multiplier and raising the FSB more...but i just got the 1650Mhz about 15 minutes ago..so i need to test for stability...

It's in the sig....
thats the best I can do on my Antec 350 w power supply...
I think the memory may be holding me back.
any higher and it is unstable with 3dM2001

see my sig. It's running on 1.85 volts. Still locked, no reason to unlock as memory can't do higher then 150 FSB at CAS2. Plus CPU becomes unstable at anything higher then 1650 Mhz with current cooling.

i ordered my 1700xp last week from newegg. i was expecting it today along with my shuttle and corsair 2100. i did alot of checking on the cpu database and it seems average overclock for both the 1600 and 1700 xps is just under 200 mhz. that's a nice
o\c so i'm looking to get mine up to 1.67 or better....
1.7 would be great:D
good luck with yours and let me know what your stepping is and what o\c you get!
