Radeon VE dual head quirk

I was introduced to somebody the other day, and he has a Radeon 32mb dual head, and during startup, his screen flickers twice...only during startup.
My question is this....is it normal for a dualhead to flicker twice? e.g. initialising twice, once for each head?
The man is woried that something is wrong, and I told him that I thought it was normal.
Is it?

i think its a monitor quirk, happens to me as well...

It's normal. I used to have a Matrox G400 and the same thing happened.
