in windows xp pro, no matter which program i use(nero, easy cd creator, nti, cd clone(latest version of each)) when i try to copy a cd, it wont work. i have 1 cd rom drive, and 1 cdrw drive, but they are both on the same eide cable, so on the fly copy is not possible. i go to save it to harddrive first, but when it goes to write the image, it will do the first 860 of 333000 block right away, but it will take forever to do the rest. the cd rom drive it is reading from is spinning like crazy, but it goes so slow, it would probably take 5 days to get the image file.

it used to work fine in windows 98/me.

I tried it with different cds, and i tried getting an image from both cd rom drives, but the same thing happens. i tried another cd rom drive, still wouldnt work. the acer one should work fine because it said "windows xp ready" on the box. i updated windows with the latest windows updates(and the cdr patch), and i have the latest version of all the programs and drivers. what is the problem?

my drives:
-Acer CD656A 56x cdrom
-Smart & Friendly 6x4x24a cdrw

ps. i submitted this thread a few months ago, but i never got a solution, so here i go again.

I was gonna suggest the updates, but you already have them. Have you tried disconnecting the cd-rom, and burning a disc with just the cd-rw as master?
Have you ran Sandra's diagnostics? Sometimes your problem will show up as a warning in Sandra...
Also, are you sure you have the most up-to-date ide controller drivers for XP for your board?
Just a few suggestons...

try here (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=%2fsearch%2fviewDoc.aspx%3fdocID %3dKC.Q310628%26dialogID%3d9434152%26iterationID%3 d1%26sessionID%3danonymous%7c7082174) .i beleive there is more to this than just that, somthing about the software wasn't compatible with most other burning softwares(including ms backup) and 1 would have to be disabled.i didn't have time for a througho search.i ran accross it a few times researching winn 2000 conflicts.

search ms knowledgebase for more.
