Ok, i'm not sure what the hell this issue is being caused by but i have tried and tried to solve it but with no luck.

I have my computer, D Link DNS 323 NAS and other network devices plugged into my Netgear GS605 Gigabit Switch. Computer is connected via Cat5e, NAS connect via Cat6.

As far as i am aware all devices NAS, PC and Switch all support Jumbo Frames. Heres the problem. I enable jumbo frames on the NAS and then all of a sudden i can't access the volume. I can browse to it by \\192.168.0.4 but as soon as i try to access Volume 1 i get nothing.

Does anybody know why this is doing it?

Not all revisions of the GS605 support jumbo frames. You can check yours in two different ways:

1. Search for the revision details on Netgear's web site, as in:

http://kbserver.netgear.com/inquira/default.asp?ui_mode=answer&prior_transaction_id=170774&action_code=5&answer_id=86784788#

2. Set up a direct connection between the server and client bypassing the switch and re-test.

Hi Madwand,

Cheers for the reply. I managed to sort this by testing between my laptop through the switch to the NAS. The laptop could communicate with the NAS which led me to think it was my PC. Played about with settings on my PC NIC and i now have it working with jumbo frames at 7k as 7k seemed faster then 9k. Since enabling jumbo frames my transfer speeds to the NAS have doubled halfing the time is takes to transfer a file. Took about 4 mins for a 9GB file to go accross. Also madwand just been reading some good info you posted up on another forum.

Your solution's a bit puzzling, as TCP/IP normally adjusts for mismatched segment sizes at connection time, provided that the connecting network path supports the minimum size that both ends advertise in the MSS exchange.

Still, a solution's a solution, and as it's working well now, you shouldn't worry about it -- congratulations on getting it working.
