View Full Version : Antec Overture with 380w p/s work???
Looking to downsize my htpc case in my sig and match my other components. Looking at a case on Ebay(Antec Overture Piano Black Quiet Media Case). It has a 380w Antec power supply, but I don't know if it will run everything in my HTPC sig. If not, can that power suplly be replaced with something bigger? X2 4600+, 2 gig ram, 2 dvd drives, soundcard, tv tuner card, 2600pro, 300gb hard drive...

380w should be close to enough for what you need, but ever Antec HTPC case I've seen has the ability to use any PSU you want with it. Just watch for long PSU's because of clearance issues.

In the off chance that you didn't win the Overture case, this current owner would advise you to consider another case. The included 380w PSU is borderline for what your components need, according to the PSU calculator (http://www.antec.outervision.com/) on Antec's website (I had to guess at some of your components, and used a 30% capacitor aging factor).
But, more important, this case contains a custom-designed PSU that can no longer be obtained. I discovered this a couple of weeks ago when I RMA'd my 2nd PSU in two years to Antec (a web search on the PSU reveals that I am not alone in experiencing PSU failure). The PSU is located at the front of the case, and vents on the left side - air intake is on the bottom. There is an internal "extension cord" that brings power from the rear outlet to the PSU, and it plugs into the same side of the PSU as the output cables. I am currently trying to determine the best way to re-route the cord so that I can use a standard PSU, but it's going to require cutting some internal sheet metal.

I am not familiar with the Overture and am not going to look it up but I've recently gotten an NSK2480 and it's pretty nice. The stock PSU is an Earthwatts 380W 80+ efficiency certified which isn't aheavy duty PSU but the Earthwatts line is reasonable quality. It's also got a standard PSU bay so you can put in whatever you want. I'm sure it will power what's written in your post, and could should handle what's in your HTPC signature.
I'm not getting it so don't worry about it-still looking for a HTPC case thats less than 6 inches high though..Thinking about getting this 1: http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=21754
taller than I'd like, but its different...
