Can anybody help me out here? I have a Volcano 6Cu+, and it ain't helpin' too much. I was doing tests with the stock fan (AMD 1600+) and there was only a one degree difference. I am currently sitting at 50C idle, I have a huge case fan, and it doesn't help to much at all... What the heck is going on?
Oh yeah, I have a Asus A7V266 Mobo, with 256 DDR Ram... any other info you want, just ask...

Make sure your heat sink is on right.
What kind of heatsink compound are you using?
Try taking the side of you case off.
What is you CPU voltage set at?
What is the room temp?
Damn that is hot for idle!

ps
what are you using to get the temp?

Well, the Volcano 6Cu+ isn't helping. It might as well be a retail 'sink in my opinion. Go for a real heatsink such as a glaciator, a PAL8045, MCX462, the new coolermaster, or an SK6. Don't buy hype, volcano's may be good for OEM users but that's not what we are. Otherwise, why would you be at Overclockers.com?

Also, make sure the heatsink is seater correctly. Get some good thermal paste, like Arctic Silver II. Make sure you have decent airflow in your case. A good way to test that is to light a match at the front and blow it out. Watch where the smoke goes.

1. Done that many many times
2. The white stuff that it came with (just the right amount)
3. I have a vent from outside the case going right to it
4. I haven't changed the voltage, I think its 1.75?
5. Room temp is 20C. I can even get my Mobo Temp to 21C with my case ventalation
6. I'm using MBM 5 and the asus prob deal, and they both have the same results.

Thanks

well asus is notorious for reporting high temps, but if you say your room temp is 20C and you have a duct to the hsf, somethings not right. First, get some Arctic Silver II, you'll probably see a 5C drop, and if you really are worried about temps and want to overclock, then I agree with wahoogie, get a better hsf. check the front page for a round up of the top coolers. I like my Glaciator, performs well, and very quiet.

Make sure the fan is blowing onto the HS.
