I have been looking for a new video card and im stuck between a Radeon 8500 or a Visiontek Geforce3 (not ti200 or 500). Any info will help!
Thanks

the 8500 is much better than the regular GF3s, about the same as a Ti500...the only reason that the GF3 might be a possibility is drivers......but with the newest drivers, i havent heard of many people having problems...
Yep, go for the Radeon, it's faster than the GF3. And about the drivers: Don't worry, the new one's are actually good.

The new 6011 drivers are VERY good. Took my 3d marks with stock cores settings from a little over 7100 to 8130. A 1000 mark jump with nothing but drivers is way good...
Ditto, the new drivers are great, even for lowly R100/Radeon owners like me, seeing significant boosts (actually hit 4000 with my setup below for the first time).
The Radeon 8500 would be my choice as well, even if these are the only drivers ever created for it.

The Radeon 8500 is NOT faster than the Ti-500. In fact the Ti-500 is considerably faster. The Ti-500 beats the 8500 in 9 out of 10 benchmarks.

he didnt ask about the Ti500, which is 90$ more, for about 10fps increase...not worth it imho

Don't take my word for it. Here's just one review from tech-report.com comparing the two:
"It's hard to know exactly what to make of the results we've seen, but some things are clear. In every gaming test we threw at it and in most of the more synthetic benchmarks, the GeForce3 Ti 500 showed that it's the fastest graphics card on the market, bar-none—an absolute screamer. Turn on anti-aliasing, and the Ti 500 only wins by a larger margin. The GeForce3 chips include a bundle of new capabilities that developers are only now beginning to really use, so it's reasonably future-proof, too. On top of all that, the GeForce3 chips handle trilinear and anisotropic filtering perfectly, while the Radeon 8500 seems to fudge a little."

Does'nt matter now anyway all the hype is now on the next generation of cards!

lol old review, older drivers!
LOL. You're right. Now that the Ti-500 has newer drivers, it's even better!

somebody find this close minded person a recent review (with recent radeon drivers) that shows his precious ti500 being smacked around by the 8500

What the hell do you call recent? That review I cited was from LAST MONTH!

and there have been 2 driver releases since then

10 driver releases ain't gonna make the 8500 faster than the Ti-500. The 8500 provides more features and better price. The Ti-500 provides a higher price and higher performance.

ahem
you are wrong. the hardware on the 8500 is faster than the ti500
(faster mem/core) the only thing holding the 8500 back is the drivers and yes driver releases DO improve the speed of it.

Just keep telling yourself that.

Fack it! Even Hercules and Gigabyte think nvidia sucks with their high prices. Obviously you are to stupid to realize that the 8500 might take some time to mature the way the gfarce3 did, the gfarce3 drivers which were not very good and took months upon months of driver updates to improve the performance of that card, it is obvious that the ti500 is an overclocked gfarce3 so the drivers were basically somewhat ready on release!

actually ten driver releases down the road the 8500 will be mopping the floor with the Ti500....go read yourself some reviews.....

hey dumba$$ look at this (THG sux but its just a chart)
http://www.tomshardware.com/graphic/01q4/011107/radeon-01.html
ATI Radeon 8500 Core = 275mhz Mem = 550mhz
GeFroce3 Ti500 Core = 240mhz Mem = 500
hmm yes i can keep telling myself that all the time and guess what, it will be TRUE
the Ti500 is slower, the only thing that makes it faster is matured drivers. ati is catching up though, look at the recent beta driver on www.rage3d.com everyone says its faster, just wait until a review comes out with those drivers. the 8500 is going to make the ti500 its bitch. and the 8500 is only going to get faster with each driver release.
you yourself said that drivers increased speed, but i guess by your narrow minded logic that only applys to the ti500.
go read some recent reviews

That review is over 2 months old, moron. I gave you the link to the most recent review, and guess what, Ti-500 wins!

hey idiot, i was pointing out how the 8500 is faster
the speeds havent changed yet. i just told you to look at the chart but ovbiously you dont listen. and the review you showed me is old becase there are new drivers out for the 8500 which only make it faster. im adding you to my pm list just so i can rub it in your face when the radeon is making the ti500 its bitch.
