I saw this ...I thought someone might find it interesting ..

"Hyper-Threading was officially announced at the Intel Developer Forum last fall and it was demonstrated running on a Xeon processor performing a Maya rendering task. In that test the single Xeon with Hyper-Threading enabled was 30% faster than a regular Xeon CPU. The performance benefits were definitely impressive and even more exciting was the unspoken fact that Hyper-Threading is actually present on all Pentium 4 and Xeon cores; it is simply disabled. "

I recently got a couple of P4 Xeon Prestonias for my PC. SMT (Hyperthreading} is enabled on these. So far for the most part I have seen a very small improvement over non-SMT in most apps. For the most though it appears software is going to have be developed with this technology in mind before any big improvements are seen. Sandra Pro 2002 is optimised for SMT and the improvement in results of the cpu tests is impressive. But Sandra is the only one so far I've seen that is optimised for SMT. Maya I believe is coming out with a free program of sorts next month. I'll have to give that a try.
