how would i go about transferring files from my laptop to my desktop? thanks

Hook Both your computers Direct (lan - lan) or Go Through Your Router (lan - Rounter - Lan) Depending on Vista or Xp its different but go to network connections and look for "set up my home office network" or something close to that. Then go through the wizard. Then you should be able to see your shared files from your other computer. then copy and paste.

i need a crossover cable for that correct? where should i see the shared files?

hfs.exe-totally free and does not install-run it in expert mode

not sure about vista but works with wine in linux
Both pcs need net access

i need a crossover cable for that correct? where should i see the shared files?Crossover cables are no longer needed. If it does need to be crossed over, it will do it on the network card itself. All I create are straight throughs and I have never had a problem.
