I just got a new Swiftech MCX462 heatsink to replace my old Retail one. Well, to start off you practically have to take apart your entire computer to get this thing on and it's a monster. But that's not my problem...

I took the CPU out and cleaned it with 92% Isopropyl and then did my best to apply the Arctic Silver II. But I had more problems then you would believe and I don't know how much I used, but it was more than you are supposed to. Anyway, I got the CPU back in its hole and put the new heatsink on. Then, I turned on my computer and it got as far as counting the RAM and it started to hang. So, I pressed reset and NO VIDEO. I shutdown and started up again and NO VIDEO.

Does anyone know what my computer's problem is?

Here's a brief desc:
AMD Athlon T'Bird 1200MHz
Asus A7A-266 MoBo (with Ali Magik Chipset)
Swiftech MCX462
Hercules geForce2MX 64MB
300-VA Power Supply
1 Intake Fan
1 Exhaust Fan

Sounds like the heatsink didn't make good contact with the cpu :(

Check the ram, just in case it got bumped. There have been a lot of loose ram problems lately.

After that just check everything! Stuff lossening up sucks, but it is one of the first things I check nowadays.

Just try it again later. I've seen a couple instances when a good night's sleep makes a computer wake up. Funny how that works.

How do I check to see if it's shorting out my Motherboard? Cause this this is one MONSTER of a heatsink

first off make sure the nuts on the retaining bolts aren't touching the MoBo or the mounting plate for the MoBo ..................2nd there are nylon spacers that go into the holes on the MoBo, Did ya use them?

Yes, it said if you have "large holes" use the nylon shoulder washers. I'm not sure whether my holes are "large" but I use the nylon washers as opposed to the the black fiber washers.
