EDIT: Here are my PC specs:
Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor
OCZ Platinum 1600 DDR3 RAM
nVidia 790i SLI motherboard
2x nVidia GeForce 280 GTX GPU in SLI
Corsair 1000W PSU
2x Velociraptor HDDs in RAID0
Vista 64-bit
Hello again everyone,
I wanted to come back for some more advice on my extremely finnicky PC. Lately, I have been having some sort of hardware problem. It gives me an error (#132 I believe) on WoW just randomly. This is a common error that often turns out to be a hardware problem. I also bluescreen every once in a while on Far Cry 2, usually about an hour or two into a playing session. (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA error)
I'm not positive this is a RAM issue, but I have no way of checking and I don't see what else it could be, so I want to try, and if it doesn't fix the problem I can always return the new RAM.
So I think I will be getting some new RAM, but I have a few concerns.
1) First off, I checked out nVidia's website, and my MoBo (the 790i Ultra SLI) is only tested and proven with a few types of RAM. Now I know that doesn't necessarily mean anything, but with all the problems I've been having I just want to make sure. Here is a link: http://www.nvidia.com/content/nforce700i/nForce_Intel_Memory_List.pdf
None of the modules tested are 4GB, which I have wanted to go with from the beginning for increased performance on games. The 1800GB Corsair module I am thinking about getting that is nVidia-tested is only 2GB: http://www.corsair.com/_datasheets/TWIN3X2048-1800C7DFIN.pdf
But I'm concerned: how much difference would it make for games like Crysis if I had 2GB instead of 4GB? Would they run a lot slower?
2) Corsair's website (http://www.corsair.com/products/dominator/default.aspx) shows that the module I am looking at (TWIN3X2048-1800C7DFIN) is also Intel Extreme certified, while the 4GB module (the one right below the other one) is not. What are the chances that the 4gb version of the 2gb RAM that is actually certified by Intel/nVidia would work?
3) If the 4gb wouldn't work, would I get better performance with just 1 module (2x1GB) or 2 modules (4x1GB)?
Thanks guys!
