First, I prefer AMD for the time being, but that's not what I'm posting about.
I'd like to know why I so often hear that arguement that you need a new mobo for each new AMD CPU. Right now, I could buy any current AMD CPU (Duron, Tbird or XP) and put it in my mobo with no problems. I don't know about you all, but that seems like an acceptable level of backwards compatability to me.
I don't mean to start one of those ridiculous flame wars; I just want to know what you're talking about.

run an XP on a KT7 then ;)

the earliest soA boards (KT133/amd750) are next to useless now apart from the old cpus. also i can use FCPGA chips on my slot boards quite happily

can you put a socket chip in a slot board?

Who said you need a new mobo every time?

I don't think AMD differs that much from Intel concering this, as the new Tualatins also need mobos that support them...

Wouldn't this post do better in 'Debates'?

Actually the Tualatin are still being used w/ the Abit BE6-II which has a 440BX chipset, they are coverted over a PowerLeap adapter and some guy here modded it so he can change the voltage.

And for Socket 370 well theres an adapter for that too coming.

The 440BX chipset is great I mean it was used from P2 to the Tualatin thats two generations :P

Definitely a topic for debates. All I'm saying.
