I have a freenas with 3 HDD's
36 gig seagate which is old as heck, partitioned as the main drive and storage for the wife
120 gig for my storage
200 gig for media files, movies and music.
The wife had not used the drive since I built the machine a few months ago. I told her to use it to store her photos on from her drive in her machine. Her drive has been acting up a bit so I made her upload the files to her drive.
She decided to do it while I was at work and uploaded a 32 gig folder all at once. The drive over heated and smart logged it. It reached as high as
80 degrees Celsius. It has been having raw_read_errors ever since and is clicking as well.
All of the drives are a bit old and so is the machine their in running freenas. I need to know if I should buy 2 new hdd's as pata or just drop an extra 10-20 bucks on sata drives with a pci controller card?
Pata seems to be on its way out lately, like completely. Newegg barely carries many pata drives and I have tried to find some 500 gig pata drives but everyone seems to be out of stock of them.

I would like 2 500 gig drives.

Find used PATA drives from a trusted source on here or buy new from NE/ZZF. It wouldn't be worth 15 cents to upgrade to SATA.
