Ok looking at getting a couple 1Tb HDDs but can't make up my mind which to get. I'm looking at the Samsung Spinpoint F1, WD Caviar Green and Black and the Seagate 7200.11, Which one is the best to use and has the lowest failure rate. I'm really looking at the Samsung, but wanted some more info on it.

I have 2x 1TB Green drive in my WHS box. it's not the fastest drive around, in fact it's on the slow side. however, the point of the Green drive is lower power consumption. I also have a 7200.11 1.5TB drive in my currently new build living room HTPC. now, this thing is fast!

personally I have good faith and never have a problem w/ WD drives! I go w/ the Seagate for my new build is b/c it's the biggest one atm, it should last me for a good while, plus the Antec Fusion only support 2 HDD max.

I like Seagate due to the 5 year warranty, and so far, I have had better luck with them over WD.

WD VS Seagate I am
4 to 0 right now. 4 dead WD's 0 seagates over the last 5 years.

As someone who has one from three different brands:
Whatever's cheapest. I bought the "long lasting" version of the Seagate drive, which has a longer MTBF. For all I know it's the exact same drive at a lower price.

The WD greenpower's shut down when not in use which is okay. You might like that for a HTPC, I don't really ever notice it's off until I try to access it and then I hear it spool off. It's a quite drive.

My Hitachi is the same, not loud at all etc. just average. They're just hard drives, quite the commodity these days.

My recommendation would be to get a 1.5TB.

WK, you might want to jump on this deal if you haven't decided. WD 1TB BLACK Edition!

I'm running 4 WD green 1TB drives in my media server. No problems so far. They did get a bit warm though until I set them up in an antec nine hundred case. Nice and cool now.

Went ahead and bought the Samsung SpinPoint F1 along with Hogan's Heros The Complete Series. Got the HDD for $1 less then the Caviar Black and this seems to be a better HDD.
