View Full Version : Vid pin mod on St6 -raid
i´m looking 4 a vid pin mod for my st6 raid cause my cel 1200 won´t go higher than 1500 @1,6Vcore.
plz send my some guides by mail to
tbc99@gmx.net
there is also something i want to know. does overlcocking influence the raid controller (onboard) of my st6-raid in a bad way? cause my disks seem to be slower....
I performed my vid pin based on the information contained herein (http://forums.overclockers.ws/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=44329&highlight=vid+pin).
basically you wrap vid1 and vid2

Vid Pin mod PIC
And I would also like to know about overclocking effecting the RAID controller on the abit board. And to add to his question if you have to disable RAID does it also disable the extra two IDE ports on the motherboard ? I think that the High Point HPT370 IDE RAID Controller chip controls bnoth the RAID and the two extra IDE ports. So would disabling RAID also disable the two extra IDE ports ? Someone with the ST6 can probably answer this easly.
disabling the raid only disables the 2 ata100 ports the normal ide ports are still working

*sigh.....that stinks.
I've been leaning twards the st6 because of the extra ports. But if disabling raid kills them then I'd rather have the ST6 non raid board.....which I just saw on price watch for less then the raid board.
Thanks for the info. That definately helps my decision on what board to get.

If you're going to get the non raid, why not grab the VH6T?? Has memory expandability (to 1.5GB). The ST6 has a 512MB max...
VH6T also has all the nice bells and whistles, dunno why people are even buying the ST6 over the VH6T... maybe someone could explain that...

took a look at the vh6t board...has a via chipset insted of the 815ep set. Don't know what kind of difference that will make. People have been talking about the 815 being goofy without the vid pin mod on reboots.
I just mention the st6 because that's what was recomended and what is being used witht the 1.2 cele in most instances.
The vh6t is less expensive then the st6 non raid. I just don't know How well the via chipset fares with overclocking.
And the vh6t only has ATA66 IDE YUCKY for me. I got an 80gb ata 100 western digital that is screaming to get off my promise ata100 card.
If any of you have a digital camera can you take the chip out and see how you wrapped it?
Wrap it with what and how exactly to wrap it? I'm so confused is it like conductive paint ?

Just wondering do you put the pin on first then wire it or wire it first as if I'd be scared to bend the pins if I were doing it.

All you do Is take a small piece of speaker wire and wrap it around the pins if you want to do that method. It is much easier to bend a piece of speaker wire into a U shape and just drop it into the corrisponding vid1 vid2 holes in your motherboards socket. Here's a link to a web site that should help you.

read the whole article form the begining here :

Scroll down until you see the article. It's titled Celeron Tualatin Experience
I prefer ol'mans technique. Took a very thin piece of wire bent into the shape of a "U" and dropped into the holes on the socket. Worked like a charm. Had some spare Monster Cable speaker wire laying around and pulled one thread out of it. Very thin indeed. Processor dropped right in even with the wire.

No, I'm running 2 harddrives at ATA100 right now ;)
I get 430MB memory bandwidth... not great, but not bad either.

the specs I looked at said ATA66 Oh well, typical of computers, I'm finding out that the amount of misinformation on the net about computers is widely spread. I've seen eight million variations of the specs for the gigabyte and st6 boards. And now different info about this board too.
On a good note. I found a sweet SWEET deal on a abit ST6 that I couldn't pass up. Should be at my house in 3-5 days :D
Until then I'm doing some more case mods. My clear reservoir is built and being tested for leaks right now. Looking good. I'm shopping for a light for inside my case...and considering dye lite...haven’t decided though. I got an idea with Kool-Aid that i might try out...look in the alternative mods for more on that idea. Also going to paint my case blue. Lots to do before my board comes !!!!!!
thx the vid pin mod does his job well.
take a look
