I understand that the RADEON 8500 comes with core speeds of 200MHz (OEM) and 275MHz(BOXED).

How can you distinguish the difference? They look the same.
No markings indicate any speed.

ATi has ignored E-mail requests for this info.
I purchased one, mail order, supposed to be 275MHz.
It came packaged like OEM.

Got any ideas?

Thanks,

AL

Hi,

1. Run Powerstrip to see which speed it runs at.

or

2. Check the Rage3d.com forums (ignoring the 90% ATI Zealots) and ask a question (just dont express any disatisfaction if you have gotten a Fake Retail as they will instantly attempt to pound you into submission/silence)

simial,

Welcome to the Forums Bro,

The Oem's are most likely:

220/220
230/230
230/250
250/250
Some have 3.6ns memory while others have -4

Run Powerstrip (http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm) and check your core and memory.

A few retailers have been advertising a retail radeon 8500 and shipping out the OEM.

Retail is 275/275 with 3.6ns memory.

A retail unit comes in a colored box that says BUILT BY ATI

The only exception is the Gigabyte retail unit and soon possibly the Hercules as well
