Quick question for OC. ...I have a 640gig wd black that i want to raid..can i slice half==320gig..my vista partition and raid 0 with another 640gig/ 320gig partition..and leave the rest of space in raid 1 using hardware raid..is this possible?

That sure seems overly complicated. If you want RAID-0 performance with a RAID-1 safety then use your 2 640's for RAID-0 and a backup HDD to save important files. Or read up on Raid-0+1. I have no experience with it but it might be what you are looking for if you M/B or RAID card supports it.

Yes, you can do that with the Intel Matrix Raid array. Enable Sata Raid in BIOS, then Ctrl+I to get into the Raid Manager. If you slice it in half you will have a 640GB raid 0 and a 320GB raid 1. IMO you would be be better off with a smaller raid 0 & larger raid 1 partition.
I used it to set up a 90GB raid 0 partition & a ~280GB raid 5 partition on 3 160GB OEM WD drives. Worked like a charm.

Search the storage section for HDTune and/or HDTach & I'm pretty sure you should be able to find a few comparisons. I saw a recent thread with two WD models running single & raid 0. He did a nice job with his review.
