whats with this, i find TONS of them. its rather tempting to get ont to tinker with, i have alot of spare drives sitting arround.

any one know the rhyme or reason for this?
i looked it up and i couldnt find many promenent problems with the hard drives in these

I think he is saying he is finding ones without HDDs for sale on ebay and CL and such.

And he is asking WHY people dont just put a HDD in it and sell it.


answer: People with HDDs sitting around will probably pay more for the nonHDD PS3 than it would cost the seller to buy a new HDD and install it.

maybe the hard drives went bad in them....... maybe they took out hard drive to replace a hard drive with a larger drive then sold the original................. or best yet maybe it is a terrorist plot to destroy our countries moral by stealing ps3 hard drives and induce boredom in our youth............

i am sure they did have them originally, but as said above for some reason they were removed.

perhaps the PS3 is like the 360, you need a special harddrive to install, you cant just install any harddrive.

I'm pretty sure the PS3 can use any laptop hardrive.

Here's my speculation on the matter:

Is suspect that the people that are selling the PS3's have removed the hard drives for the purpose of selling it separately to try and make more total money from the sale. They probably sell the HD as a "special" PS3 hard drive with the hope that there are people that don't know that there is nothing special about the hard drive in the PS3 (these people do exist). I bet that if you look at the seller's other listed items, you will probably find a PS3 hard drive.

That PC ram is soo tricky. Theres pins, and slots and tabs, and putting it in the right way. Oh no im not sure if I can do that.

He should affix a small Sony logo sticker to the drives to make it seem more legitimate to the uninformed, sorta like how Apple used to plaster an Apple logo on the hard drives in their computers to get people to think it was a special Apple-only drive. :D

In all honestly I'm sure the Apple logo was on the drives to identify it as an OEM part for warranty purposes, though I'm sure there were at least a few people who believed OEM Apple drives would only work on Apple computers.

heres something i have noticed, when searching for console problems and fixes (which i do often, i have a collection) i can usually find some sort of DIY fix or other such information for ANYTHING ranging from pong to 360 BUT.

i am having a HELL of a hard time finding any thing about any PS3 problems. i have a hard time finding if they system wont power up at all with out a hard drive or if it comes on and stops at a piticular screen.
