First off I like to say that CrazyPC is awesome!!! I order my 256 pc2700 yesterday morning. For some reason the site said they were backorder. So I email them and ask if they were in stock. I got an email saying they were. Came home from work today and it was here already, WOW!!!. I had is sent 3 day select. Give I live in OH and CrazyPC is in Mi, so it not that far. But still that is awesome service.
I got a question about the ram. I looked at it and on the ram itself it said "-07a". Does that mean it is not 5ns chips? Also can someone check for me to make sure that these are PC2700. I am planning to get a new board and cpu soon. So I don't have anything to test this stick with. The numbers on is: KDL684T4A2A
Thanks:beer:

Dude, sounds like CrazyPC is not that awesome, they swindled you. You got the older 7.5ns model of the Kingmax. The 5ns will have a -05 on the chips, like mine do. I got mine from Kommax and they gaurenteed me that I would get the 5ns model before I even ordered it. You definately need to send that back and get them to send you the 5ns version, or get your money back and go somewhere else. Sorry to have to give you the bad news, but you should get it fixed as soon as you can, good luck.

Argh, that blows considering I emailed *and* called crazyPC after ordering specifically asking if I was receiveing the "-05." They told me I was. Oh, BTW, they called *me* back after I had to leave a message. Good cust svc there. I will have to wait til tomorrow to see as I live in PA, one more state than OH, :). UPS says the package is sitting in New Stanton PA distro center.
This after I received two emails confirming their "current" batch was the "-05." Maybe f155 got part of a "new" shipment?? I ordered mine via web on Sunday, hehe. Oh well, at least their resellerrating is sweet, I doubt I will have any problems.
Only issue is their tech support said according to Kingmax it is all PC2700 no matter the markings, so will they even take it back?...quite frankly I don't know who to believe, b/c all of you guys here that insist only the "-05" is real PC2700 are doing that on pure speculation too (no offense, but none of you are Engineers at Kingmax, are you?) I will see tomorrow.

Madman,
Let me know what you get!!! I emailed both Crazypc and Kingmax. I asked crazypc if they would exchange it for me. I told them if they can varify that they have the 05 I will get another stick from them. I want to buy another stick because from what I read from the inquirer the mem prices with go up again. I ask Kingmax what all those numbers mean. I hope to get a reply soon.

No, but I did talk to one of the engineers at Kingmax. He said that those numbers on the chips denote the speed of the chips in ns. -05=5ns and -07a=7.5ns. That's the way it has always been with ram chips, even way back with EDO ram. Also video card ram lists their speed in ns in the same way. With all this evidence, I am certain that this is fact. The Kingmax guy said that when they first started producing PC2700, 5ns chips were not available, so they used 'handpicked' PC2100 chips that could run at PC2700 speed. This is the same thing that OCZ and Corsair do. (although corsair may have changed, i'm not sure). When the 5ns chips became available, they switched over production because 5ns chips are true PC2700. The problem is, there are still some of the older version floating around at retailers who still pass them off as 5ns models. You just have to be careful who you buy from.
Madman, f155mph, don't feel bad- you're among good company. A whole bunch of us got that 7a stuff, I think so far everyone's been able to return it with no trouble. It's been coming that way from different vendors, so IMO it's not the vendors but Kingmax who messed up, either intentionally or otherwise.

Oh I see then, at least someone is getting info from Kingmax directly. Although I would have to disagree with you on the "that's the way it has always been with RAM chips"; I have some PC100 that has a "-6" at the end from about 3 years ago, think it is 166MHz capable?? :D lol I'll sell it to you if you want!!
Anyway, as far as being "careful" who we buy from, it sounds like a Kingmax issue not a reseller issue, UNLESS, as f155 has said, the RAM has no Kingmax sticker on it...that is sketchy as h*ll. However, if the reseller has sold out of the "old" PC2700 and gotten in "new" -05 stuff, that sounds more like luck of the draw to me, not just reseller integrity. Still waiting to see what I got BTW, hehe.
