I have a surveillance camera system at home. It outputs a coax cable that I want to plug into my computer. I then want to take that video image and upload it to the free website my ISP provides (http://members.cox.net/*username*).

Basically I would like the image to update very few seconds so I can check it on my I-phone. And I want to password protect it so only I can view the feed. A step by step would be great but any general advice to point me in the right direction would help. Thanks in advance.

i am not sure if it would work or not, but at my last job, my boss used simplecam. i don't really know anything about it as he set it up a long time ago. i do believe it is java based so it *should* be iphone compatible.

i believe it just runs on a high port number that you will probably need to forward with your router and then you can create a web page front end with the files needed. it might take a bit of googling to figure out exactly how to set it up, but it should be possible.

Here is one possibility:

and one more:

If you want more just google video capture for website.

What kind of ftp access do you have? Are there are any private folders that cannot be
accessed without your ftp login and password? If so, use one of these programs to ftp
upload the file there. Otherwise, being able to attain any kind of security on the image
is doubtful. You could have the video capture software upload the file with a long and
tedious filename that only you know. As long as the outside world cannot see your
directory of filenames, I suppose that's almost as good as a password.

You could host a web site right on your own PC as an alternative solution.

To check to see if the iphone try opening this one

You can just google and find a number of open live webcams. I would test to make sure the iphone works w/ it first before spending money on a webcam.

Ok I have been doing some research and now I’m thinking the easiest solution is just to buy an IP addressable DVR. I cheapest one I have found will cost me just under $300 including a 250 gig HD. A little more then I wanted to spend but I like the fact it’s a standalone unit and I don’t have to leave a computer running, and it should only take a few minutes to configure. .

I’ll update once I buy it and get it all up and running.
