Hey guys. I'm taking a trip to Florida in about a week and I'm thinking about purchasing a cheep-o laptop to suit my internet needs (no real powerhouse gaming necessary). I'll be using the laptop mainly for mobile purposes (wireless internet browsing in hotel, keeping in touch with friends via xfire/msn, maybe watching DVD's on the airplane etc), and after the trip use it as a secondary computer next to my desktop.

I really don't have a budget, but I'm looking to spend no more than $400 U.S. unless you can justify a better bang/buck combo.

I was thinking about this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834115543) lappy or this (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220368). Any other recommendations or advice for on-the-go computing?

Thanks!

I would go for that, since its a bit cheaper and has more space, but both the ones you posted are good as well. Just remember that the 14" one will have a rather short battery life compared to the other one.

There are a few other netbooks available in that price range as well, so don't forget to check your other options.

i would go for the aspire, thats way more computer for close to the same price of the EEE pc.

i mean dual core? 14" screen? dvd burner? 2 gigs of ram? 160 gig hard drive?
i mean come on if your on your trip and you wanna watch something, good luck with an eee pc. i think the only thing the asus can beat is battery life but i dont think it would be horrible on the acer

I hope you intend to rip the DVD's to AVI's or some other PC file. The Asus doesn't have a DVD drive (no EEE's have one built-in as of yet).
The sound is actually very good on the EEE's since they have Dolby Sound Room tech. It won't fill a room but it is good all things considered.
Battery life will be much better on the EEE.
You should consider perhaps the 1000H or 1000HA (if you don't need 802.11n/bluetooth) as they have standard 2.5" SATA HDD's so you can upgrade to more storage if required easily. Not sure how much storage you need.
If needed, you can also find 13000mah batteries which offer close to 8-10hrs (maybe longer) of life using wifi and browsing. They do add bulk to the EEE but it's still easily under 5lb carrying weight.

I would go with the acer aspire.
It seems like the best deal.
