Just got a new alpha 8045 and so now i need a new 80mm. So please give me some suggestions... I would like to keep the noise at a minimum while achieving nice cooling. TIA.

if noise is the most important issue.. than look for a panaflo M 80mm - it is quietier than and slower than the panaflo H fans but will do the job quite well....

Well I ordered mine with the Delta (Which is the hair dryer one). In the choices given to me at CoolerGuys, there were no other Deltas than that one. Other choices included:

Mechatronics 53CFM $9.95
Sunon 50CFM $9.95
Sunon 33.1CFM [(Noiseless) 28db] $7.95

delta would be ideal... but you were after noise ability. and personally I would go Delta... but can't go wrong with Panaflo either.

The ALPHA PAL 8045 was designed to have the air pulled thru it. Why not have a 120MM 131CFM YS-Tech suck the air off of it thru a Velocity Duct? You need good airflow into the case for this to work. Quiet? I doubt it but it'll look wild:D

You could run the 68 cfm delta fan @ 7 volts and it would be very quiet. Also, delta makes a lower cfm rated fan that sounds pretty quiet(from the recorded fans at sidewindercomputers) and Sanyo Denki makes an 80 mm fan that puts out around 53 cfm that isn't supposed to be too noisy. If you are noise-sensitive, the 68 cfm delta would probably bother you running @ 12 volts, but it isn't nearly as annoying as the 60 mm, 38 cfm delta screamers. Hope this helps you out.

I picked up a delta 68 cfm with my Alpha, at 5 volts it was pretty quiet but wasn't pushing enough air for me so i drove down to radio shack and purchased one of their 3 watt rheostats and have been using that to turn it almost up to full speed. The annoying noise on my delta dosen't start until you are just about at full speed.

what kinda cfm do those fans have? Cuz if the difference is really noticeable from the delta, i guess i could live with the noise... :D

why not try Sunon? they are much quieter than Delta, but almost as strong

get the delta 40cfm fan...it isnt loud, but it has alot better concentration, so you can overclock the chip with it...its great

Try this on for size. Sunon KD1208PTBX-6A - 4pin, 12vdc, vall bearing, 3900rpm, 50.6cfm, 40.5dBA for $10.99 at CrazyPC.com. This fan pushes uotrages cfm and is still 10dba (or more) less than a Delta! If niose is any kind of problem for you; DON'T buy a Delta! Trust me. My gf is going nuts because of the noise while playing EQ. Hope this helps a little. :)

hmm... that sunon looks nice, but then again its a 4 pin... would need to mod it to 3pin to connect it to my mobo. Otherwise the 4-3pin adapter would be like $2.:(

The 4 pin is the P/S 4 pin (molex) connector if I'm not mistaken. No mods unless you don't have any more connectors off of your P/S. If so, a splitter would be the easiest way to go any way. You could probably get them from the same site to save on shipping and handling.

hmm.. actually found that sunon for only $8! http://2cooltek.safeshopper.com/26/244.htm?708 its just too bad it doesnt monitor rpms. But i guess i could just add the extra wire. :D

would this 50.6 cfm sunon be the same fan? http://1coolpc.com/case80ho.htm

Looks about right to me. I always go to sites with as much info on the stuff I'm buying as possible personally (I always pay more to, but I know what I'm getting for sure). Good luck with the project! :)

so what how would i add the 3rd wire to monitor rpm?

I don't remember but I know that I have seen it on one of the sites (only go to 10 or 40 a day while bored at work!). I'm sure some one will have an idea.

anyone know how to fabricate the rpm wire setup?? :eh?:

On some fans if you peel up the sticker there's an extra solder pad where the 2 power leads connect that is the RPM monitoring connection. Just solder a lead from that pad to a 3 pin connector (with just the RPM wire installed). BUT not every fan I've seen has this.

My suggestion for a fan is a Delta 68.5 with a rheostat mod. 27 ohm rheo I think...... you can slow it to a crawl (or stopped, but I don't recommend that) but then turn it up when you need to.
