I'm just curious...

after crushing my core, I have bought a new Athlon XP 1500+ and right now I am -happily- using the fan that came with it.

I DO want to get back into water cooling but I want more money to do it MY way instead of the cheap way.

I will most likely put a whole new system together, or at least keep my radiator..but I will prolly get a new res/pump (as my old res was busted up by me and I havent the skills to make one)

now I wanted a DD maze 2 and all, even with the bolts and springs I feel reluctant to buy it for fear of crushing my $130 baby that my mother so nicely paid for :(

I like the koolance waterblock mount because its foolproof to me at least.. but my question is , the top part looks like some form of plastic or something and I don't want the water wetter to eat right through it when I add it in.. (cause you won't evenr catch me with a copper radiator)

Any input ?

Well remember Water Wetter's original purpose, for cars. Today's cars feature plastic parts in aluminum radiators. If it's safe for all cars to use, it's safe for your Koolance waterblock.

The Mazes bolts and springs are probably the hardest way to crush a core if you don't do anything stupid. HSF clips by comparison are almost like hitting it with a hammer to see if it shatters.

You should have no problem with water wetter at all, but if your still hesitant you could always use anti-freeze. It probably won't perform as well but it won't drop you performance noticeably. Keep in mind that chances are the waterblock your considering was designed by someone who was well aware that people put water wetter into their systems.

koolance revised there curent line of mid towers with different material for this purpose.

if you go to there web site, it will tell you more

from Koolance:

Oct 22, 2001 Product Revision Delaying Shipments

Reseller shipments are being delayed this week (up until Thursday, 25th). We are making two revisions to the PC2-C, resulting in a momentary gap in availability.

The first change to directly affect customers, is that the systems will be shipped empty of liquid. This will make it easier during system installation, since the liquid can be added afterward. Enough mixture is provided to refill the entire system twice, but the purchase of 500-600cc of distilled water will be required. (This can be purchased very inexpensively from your local grocery store.)

Secondly, the plastic materials in the CPU and reservoir are being changed. This is in reaction to incidents in which foreign mixtures have been added (i.e. dyes, "Water Wetter", etc.), sometimes resulting in damage to those components. The newer material will provide a stronger chemical resistance, but it is still suggested that the liquid be kept unaltered.

Thanks for the info guys.

I'd really like to try the Koolance block once I get enough money scrapped up - but in the meantime can someone explain to me exactly how the bolts/springs make the danger den block "safe" ??

I am just so reluctant to slap a block of copper intop of anything after my horrible experience with over-tightening and shotty mounting :(

Also... some people say the palomino core sits "lower" (a few cm?) than the Duron and T-bird cores.. I was wondering if this would effect the Koolance blocks ability to make contact at all.

Water wetter shouldn't pose a problem to plastic or copper. There was a post a couple days ago where Redline and one of the moderators exchanged emails and they said that it is fine.

From the smell of the liquid, I'm pretty sure their mixture is already made up up anti-freeze or something very similiar. Although I know someone at college at that just bought the case and they had a new liquid -color- but I'm not sure if its exactly the same as the other but with a different color, or a differerent mixture altogether. You could probably email the Koolance tech and they'd be able to answer exactly what its made up of and whether or not its safe to mix with dye-lite or water wetter.
