View Full Version : HD4870x2 Heat Shield
Ont he bottom of the hd 4870x2 is a black aluminum heat spreader. it makes contact via thermal tape to the ram on the card.. would it be better to take that off and use stickon heat spreaders made of copper? the heat shield just covers the rest of the card and I imagine that makes a warm space.

If I'm not mistaken, the black metal backplate not only acts as a heatsink but is also a structural design to keep the card from flexing too much. I would leave it on, even with full coverage blocks, there is nothing done to the backside of the card which would leave me to believe that there is no real plus in removing it.
oh yeah, good call. hadn't thought of that. I am terrified it is completing a connection accidentally or something but I guess they wouldn't design it like that.
