How hard is this on a PSU???? Running red on yellow, and black on red.
Namely fans like Tornado's and mighty 120mm Deltas, (not sure of the model) any more, but when I did search for it, it moves 220CFM and screams like a banshee..... (I love it)
Anyway, how hard are them on a PSU when running at 7 volts????

Google is a dream ;) BE WARNED THOUGH; doing the molex switcharoo is very risky (or so I just read from this article)

Agreed. I'm glad he didn't do the "letmegooglethatforyou" reply. That's such a dick move.
Good find!

(I did try Google, but my Google chi isn't what it should be)
I was curious because the 120 and the Tornado, when put on a ANTEC 430 wired for 7 volts would shut down the PSU, and they killed a 200 watt AT PSU, granted it was old, but still.....
I am currently running the fans normally, 12 volts, off another AT PSU that's running just fine......

if it shut down the psu then it was done wrong.... if you want the best way to get 7v, just go to radio shack and get a 3watt reo, maybe bigger for the tonrnado. then attache the reo to the fans wires, will be much safer on both sides......

Crafting custom basic electronics is soooooo (as in: so) much saner and simpler overall.
You will have a simple circuit. With the added benefit. Of being able to remove it later on if you choose to.
The real bonus! If things go wrong. The fan takes the hit and the circuit. Not the PSU.

The only fans that shut down the PSU was the Tornado and Delta, the others I have ran fine at 7.
It was done proper, the red on yellow and black on red, I probably should have wired them to run at 5 volts......

Some fans do not start @5v. Some even will make odd sounds at lower voltages.
I got two fans that do not start under 9v. One will make odd sounds when I make it run at the slowest speed it will run at. Not what it starts at. Since, if/when I do shutdown. I make all the rheostats full power to begin with. Then season to taste as the ambient allows.

I do have another quick question.....
I have 2 of the mentioned 430 Watt TP ANTEC PSU's (http://www.antec.com/specs/true430_spe.html), I read threw the 2 PSU sticky.
Would that particular PSU run ok if it's just powering the optical drive, and HDD's and what ever fans, like 3 normal fans, so the main PSU can concintrate on the mobo cpu and videocards?????

It is possible to create a circuit. Actually a relay. To power on as the button is pressed. So running more than one power source is a viable option.
Here is the kicker.
Do not power on a PSU without any load (at least one fan.) Make sure the relay works good first. Once all this is settled. I see no issue at all.
I have an old Compaq 250 watt unit just for testing fans/basic circuits. This is all it does. I use an ATX jumper(green wire and one back wire) and it works super dooper for this task. It would not be hard at all to add a relay to this instead of the manual jumper.

EW, if you're sick of that "ritual" turning the rheostats to fullpower everytime, why not try this -> DIY >5 AMP Fan Controller (http://www.ocforums.com/showpost.php?p=5270425&postcount=77), and imo lot better than rheostat, also its capable of driving 60 watts or even 90 watts. :D
PS: Just watch the chart to get the idea that your problem with low voltage startup will be fixed forever. :)

I was going to build that. Seen it as it passed by.
I got some of the parts together. Then built a portable headphone amp instead.
