My brother wants to play GTA IV, and I have to upgrade his crappy computer. The objective is to spend as little as possible, so I've been carefully looking through eBay to try and get some good deals. It looks like this ATM:

Pentium D 805 @ 3.6GHz (That's me on a no-name mobo with no voltage control )
2x512 DDR 400
Generic mobo with PCI-E x16
300W generic PSU
Nvidia 6200

Is the 1950 XTX that power hungry? If I reduce the OC slightly, do you think the 300W will cope? There's no harm in trying, is there?

Also, do you think I can get away with 1GB of RAM?

GTAIV isthe first game that I have seen that will fully load a quad core CPU... so if you are building for that game in mind, I dont think so.

minimum 512MB VRAM for medium textures, and TBH I never looked at mem usage.

Game loads slow (but plays great) on a 3 GHz phenom quad core, 4GB ram, hd4850 and 2x200GB raid0 hdds.

OBviously not a "budget" pc, but definitly a budget power house pc :)

A Phenom, 4GB of RAM and a HD 4850 sounds great, but I don't have the budget to do that. I have to spend as little as possible, which is why I'm trying to get away with just upgrading the GPU.

Anyone with an X1950XTX out there care to give me an idea as to how it'll run?
