View Full Version : HD power supply?

I just salvaged some power supplys from large tower drug dispensing machines here at work. But they appear to have a different connector plug than the ATX PS style plugs that I'm used to. Is there any online reference with the different kinds of plugs displayed?

These buggers are big. Absolutely HUGE transformers and capacitors in them. If nothing else I can just scrounge the fans for cheap case cooling fans for myself.

Thanks in advance.

sounds like they are old server AT power supplys.
could you post a picture of them?

Might not even be AT if they came off something other than a comp...

Depending on the voltage, you could always run something with them...fans, pelt, pump, etc...

They did come out of computer consoles that were in the towers, so maybe....

Or, perhaps they're just old enough (no more than 5 years old) that they were over-built like a brick sh*thouse.

I'll post a pic or two tonight when I get home to my camera.

Hey, did anyone get a chance to look at the pics of the PS's that I got free? I think the only problem that I can see to using them in a PC environment is that the connector plugs have no 3V or -3V connections. Only 5V, -5V , 12V, -12V, 24V and "V+BATT", "PF", "BATT RTN", "RTN" and "VSOL" connections.

Whaddaya think guys? Are they usable or should I just scarf the fans and toss the rest?

If you could find 12 volt or 24 volt connectors, they would be useful for running fans, pumps, pelts, and the like. I wouldn't plug one into my mobo...

Thanks for the tip. I think I'll just salvage the fans and toss the rest in the scrap heap.

It doesnīt look like it is a switching PS at all. Non-switching PSīs are quite bulky and heavy, ie. powersupplies in power amplifiers.

Henry.

Thanks. I ended up just scrounging the fans. They're not the best stuff on the market, but they're quiet, free and will move air.
