View Full Version : Watercooling Temps too high?

I've just installed my first watercooling system - Danger den maze 2, cooler core radiator, 145gph pump. Problem is, my full load temp on my Tbird 1Ghz @ 1.6Ghz is around 57C. It's about 10C cooler than it was with aircooling alone, but I'm sure it shouldn't be this hot. I've checked and double checked the contact with the CPU, applied and reapplied ASII, and I'm running out of ideas. Any thoughts appreciated.
On a similar subject - I'm reading many of the posts in the forum people are getting their CPUs well below ambient temperature. Short of having a whirlwind of fans, or using liquid nitrogen, what other methods are there for achieving sub-ambient temperatures?
have you tried lapping your waterblock and at least having some sort of airflow in the case ?

what is the lift hight of your pump, it should be around 1.5m
what kind of fans do you have on your rad? If your rad is in your case, whats your case temp like? If your case temp is really hot, and youre just blowing hot air through your rad, it wont do much good.

The radiator is mounted at the front of the case so as to pull cold air through it. I'm using 1x120mm fan and 1x80mm fan (both at 12 volts). The 120mm one is made by Papst, and the 80mm one by Ys-Tech. I've put the reservoir/pump at the highest point in the case so that the air bubbles are always at the top of the reservoir. Circulation is as follows: Pump -> Radiator -> Waterblock -> Pump
Thanks for your help folks.
what are you using to take those temps. If its anything on your motherboard then its probaly wrong. Get a temp probe.
Are both those fans on the radiator ?
I don't think thats such a good idea, given the size difference.. and brand difference as well..
can anyone confirm this ?
I figure every brand is a little different or something like that....and well if you got an 80 on one side and a 120 on the other could be messing up air flow ?
It's 4:32am don't hate me

I think as long as they're both pushing the air in the same direction it shouldn't be a problem at all... could be better if they were both 120 but that's just my opinion...:p
You are putting off a ton of heat with that running @ 1.6gig. What is you Vcore set at? I guess what I'm getting at is that it sounds like you rad can't dispurse all that heat. Worth looking into.
PS.. What size tubing are you using? 3/8in or 1/2in

BillA checked stacked fans through a rad and they were worse than just one, they don't work well at all unless you have them counter-rotating.

Stacking yes I can see different sizes making a difference but I believe he has them side by side... pushing air the same way...;)
