Guys,

Am I crazy or is that an amazing deal!? Someone wants to give me a brand new one with 1 year of warranty left (I dont mind extending it for a price) for $330!!! This monitor looks lovely! I believe it's an S-PVA panel and great for gaming? Revision is A00...

1) Ive never cared about superior color reproduction
2) I dont even notice what ghosting is in my laptop LED LCD
3) This thing has 450 candelas of awesome brightness...

What to do!? Buy or skip!? :bang head

Well, if it's in good shape and still has some warranty left, it is quite an excellent deal. I'd personally snap it up. Do check it thoroughly for dead pixels though... Dell warranty doesn't cover that unless you have a huge number of 'em. Also wouldn't hurt to look at a full white screen on it... check it to make sure it looks even and bright, as backlights do dim over time.

The big advantage of a better panel is the color reproduction, but even if you don't care about it too much, you may as well go for the better quality if you can get it. Plus there are some other troubles with the crappy TN monitors, like uneven/washed out black levels, which you probably would notice.

And yeah, IMO ghosting is very overhyped. I could never see ghosting on anything since the ancient dual-scan 300ms LCDs... even the old ~50ms Viewsonic I had for awhile, never saw a problem with ghosting. (And I can see the phosphor trails on CRT monitors, which aren't supposed to have any ghosting.)

Its in an unopened mint condition, I will definitely check for:

1) Dead pixel
2) Uneven backlighting

Any other tests to do before whipping out the cash? The price is amazing...feels too good to be true...and is gaming really that bad on this!?

You say you dont get bothered with Ghosting, but this monitor was notorious for it. It was a pretty significant problem that Dell never fixed in the end. They did authorize returns for them though. I would be hesitant if using this for gaming.

To get credit return, does it have to be within a certain time limit? I bought this off a friend so...

And the credit wouldnt go to me would it...

Probably not. I would imagine its for the original purchaser only. Dont take my word on it though. Email and ask.

My point was that the ghosting on this monitor was significant enough for multiple threads in various forums about it. Dell never got a firmware fix out, but acknowledged it and responded with the return option.

Just wanted you to be aware of it as a gamer. It still is a pretty cheap deal.. flaw or not.

That monitor has been out for a while. I am not suprised. Thats the 2007 model, 2408 being 2008, etc. They could very well have halted the returns program on that.

We are currently on the 2409 lineup.

GFX,

I don't believe it's a S-PVA panel either: TN

Did you buy it? If you don't, I will! :)

I have it in my house, been testing with it. No clue how to fix the colors, which look all jacked up. Too reddish/pink, I generally prefer a white/very light blue tint to things, as that is how my LED LCD on my laptop is set.

I played Left 4 Dead on it a little on my laptops video card, I didn't really notice any ghosting, maybe I missed it or something? How much does input lag slow you down anyway?

Besides that, the monitor is HUGE coming from a 15.4". God it's beautiful too...everything about it...

I also heard this screen had horrible ghosting which was finally resolved in REV A02 , and shortly replaced by the 2408wfp A00

Where do I even find anymore of these monitors? I want to buy a later revision but I doubt any of them will be available. These monitors are beautiful, other 24"s look so clunky and their base is pretty ugly (yeah Im picky on the design). I'll also keep my eye out for 2408wfp deals within the next two months. I definitely can wait til I find a fast response monitor with good color, design and price.
