i just got a funnel 60mm-80mm, and i have an sk-6. the only problem is i dont know how to connect it correctly. do i just screw through the fins? well....that is what i did....i got a 53cfm fan, but the cooling performance is the same as the 30cfm 5500rpm delta i had! am i doing something wrong? please help. thanks guys.

well somtimes going from a 60~80mm doesnt always perform better..
you should just keep the 60mm on there (a good 40cfm fan should be good enough)
but you could work on ur case airflow.. if ur case temps are over 26c then you need to work on that.. IMO
whats your normal room temp?

back pressure!

Restricting airflow by using a funnel will increase the back pressure, and with many fans it will slow them down, thus reducing their airflow. Sounds like this might be true in your case.

my case temp is 25c....i the only benifit is that it is quieter....but it puts out 23 more cfm!! does anyone have any experience with these?

Well I've never used one of those adapters, so I don't know what your options are for mounting it. I take it you couldn't use the spring clips that come with the sk6? As for the cooling problem it could be a number of things. Like others have said the adpater may be creating back pressure. The fins on the sk6 are pretty close together. You can only force so much air through there. Is there any gap between the top of the sink and the base of the adpater? Do you have a good seal everywhere? Of course there's always the chance that you've reached the maximum efficieny of the heatsink with a given air flow and ambient temp. More air flow might not make much difference.

i think that is the problem.....i dont have a clean seal everywhear. no i cant use the spring clips... i thought of that. what can i do in order to get a clean seal? would tape work...or is there a better method?

Do you have a hole in the side of the case for fresh air to come in through? You would want this hole to be right over the intake of the hsf. This might help, but make sure to put another fan into the case to vent the extra air coming into the case. THe best place to do this (if you haven't already) is to put it in the top of the case so it will take the heated air out. Hope this helps. :)

Would a 38mm thick fan help force the air through the funnel better than a regular 25mm one? I was curious if the thickness had any effect on the amount of back pressure a fan could handle.

well...i decided to re-do the entire thing and instead of having the fan blow onto the processor, i have it sucking away from it. which i think is good because it is sucking the air into the path of my 2 80mm exaust fans. lowered my temps about 4-5c. so for 12.95 it works out pretty good. also my case temps have drop a degree or so also.

Guys, you most certainly can use the original clips that come with the sk6 to mount the 80mm fan, I have done it many times. Rotate the fan 45 degrees from square (the way the 60mm sits) and voila, it works like a charm. No adapter or screws needed.
