Merry Christmas everybody! I recently bought a PowerColor 4870 PCS+ 1gig to replace my old trusty 8800GT. After getting home, I removed my NVIDIA drivers using Driver Sweeper while in safe mode and installed my new VC normally, I'm currently only using the 8.12 Driver and not the Catalyst Crap Control thinamajig.

My Problem is, in ALL of my games, there is random FREEZES that last anywhere from a fraction of a second to up to 15 seconds where the game does not actually crash but continues like nothing happened.:bang head

Could it be that I need a fresh install of WinXP? Or could there be something physically wrong with my card? RMA in my country is a hit and miss affair and I'm not prepared to be without a card for a month. Any thoughts? My system specs is in my sig.

Reinstall XP and try using a different hard drive also if you have one.

check your temps? are you overclocking it? can you run ati tool and test it? I dunno, does ati tool even work with new video cards. Im still using an older 7900GS, when I oc'ed the core too high it would freeze for a few seconds while gaming just like your card is doing.

@Theocnoob
I'm not yet ready for a complete reformat/reinstall just yet. :)

@tropick thundar
will try to look for 8.11 and 8.12...

@terran2k
I'm actually underclocked at 750/925. my PCS+ came with 780/925 clocks. My temps are ok, low 50s idle to mid-high 60c on full load. I dont know if atitool works for this VC, I will try it out. I'm currently using Furmark for stability testing.

I would definitely try the 8.11 drivers before you do anything else. Too many people are having issues with the 8.12's. I'm one of them.....
