I tried to upgrade to XP Pro and I get a continual reboot on my system. The XP starts installation , copies the software and then when it reboots and shows the Neat XP screen with the little activity bar at the bottom (it goes across about 5 times) it reboots and does the same thing...I have let it do this for 2 hours and it never gets anywhere. I have my harddrives and CD ROMS on master select instead of cable select, I have tried to install it from the CD and copying the install CD to a folder and installing it that way.....no go!!!

I have pretty much a clean system as I formatted my hardirve this weekend and reinstalled. Thanks for any input.

Soyo Dragon Plus , 256 meg. DDR RAM , VooDoo 5 AGP card. Adaptec 2940 SCSI card(yes I tried it without it also)

Thanks

Is your processor overclocked? What are your memory settings in the bios?

This usually happens when you have a burned copy of XP "illegal" used, you have one file that is corrupted if so. On the other hand, if you're using a legal copy, then check your video card compatibility or possible P/S ? .. usually when you get to that XP neat screen, meaning you're almost done copying installation files and it's about to setup your video settings before it prompts you to activate/register XP .. I'm leaning more towards video issue here tho' ..

XP will freeze ever time I try to install it if I have usb enabled in the bios. Go into the bios turn it off and it installs with no problems. Something to try anyway.

You can also try booting to the XP CD (if that isn't what you have been doing), just go into your BIOS and change the boot sequence to boot to CD first, save the changes and exit, press any key to boot to the CD when it prompts you and then ideally do a format and clean install. Sometimes if it boots from the hard drive first you can have drivers or programs load that interfer with the XP installation.

As pacino said, if you aren't using an original CD to do the installation from its also likely that you are missing some files XP needs, usually caused by copying the CD at too high a speed.
