I have built a HTPC its running vista premium (WMC)
Vid card is a 8600 GTS I have a DVI to HDMI adapter
and a sony AW-15 projector.
Now projector native res is 1280 x 720 but If I set it to 1280 x 720
the right side of the screen is chopped off so in Nvidia panel I set it to
1280 x 720/50hz looks fine. correct me if im wrong but isn't that 720p?
Now reading the projectors manual it supports 1080p/24
So I do 1080p/24 and now the desktop res is 1920 x 1080.
So how can the projector do 1080p/24 if its native is 1280 x 720?

Also forgot to mention this when I go to play a DVD It will show the
normal FCC warnings but then goes to a blue screen saying something about
DVD may be in use by another program or resolution might need to be lowered.
whats frustrating is my gaming PC has no problem on that TV then again
my gaming PC has a HD 4800 is it safe to say I might need to upgrade the HTPCs vid card?

nVidia is awesome at building gaming cards.. and not to start a fanboi war but, they generally are not recommended for anything else. (unless running linux)
Only thing I think nVidia has on ATI right now is 24 bit sound on HDMI... but considering AFAIK they still dont support VC-1 dxva encoding (standard of HD-DVD and BD) and the fact that anyone that can tel lthe differnce of 24p audio is going to have a system so intense they are NOT going to be using an audio chip found on a video card (no upgradeable opamps ;) )
Basic rule of thumb for Video cards is...
nVidia for games and ATI for everything else. (although research is best done in any case.. since, either company games well now)
EDIT:
Error warnings about drive in use are generally WMP related
turn off wmp and media center if you are running another program for viewing.
IF you are not, then wait till anydvd is done scanning hte drive berfore starting.. no AnyDVD? Then more info is needed.

The DVD has been in the drive for a day now and the only prog I had open to play it was windows media center.
Now for a vid card I'm not sure what to get I have an old x1650 ATI around here or maybe just get something from the HD series just not sure what
maybe this?
