I recently got a 80 mm fan for my SK6, but the temps actually went up.... I thought it would improve... haha. I replaced my Delta screamer with a less noisy Sunon (3200rpm, 42.5cfm, 36.5dBA) The temps are @ 52C full load (folding, winamp, and IE) Is 52C too hot for non-O/C?

yea man, mine at full load is at 35C most......and 28 idle.....how is your case temp? do the HSF have enough fresh air to cool down the cpu?

when you take a sink that is designed to work with a 60mm fan and plop an 80mm fan on it the cfm ratio goes way up. What I mean is a 60mm fan at 38cfm will cool the SK6 much better than an 80mm fan rated at 38cfm. I would get a 50cfm 80mm fan to do the job. 52C is a little hot.

Update.... Lapped the hinksink, mirror shine, used artic alumina, and the temps went up to 60 idle!!! don't want to try full load... dunno whats wrong! BTW my system temperature is at a constant 24C.... weird.... maybe something wrong with sensor??

What board are you using and how are you getting your temps? Very important!

I am using a Gigabyte GA-7VTXE mb and I am getting temps with the thermal sensor in the socket. I applied thermal paste to the sensor and bent it up so it touches the bottom of the CPU. My CPU is a XP 1600+ non o/c.

Are you getting the values from the bios?

I am getting the readings from Gigabyte's utility manager.

Try this: put the delta back on without removing the sink. Check temps and report back. I think that you may need to re-seat the sink with AS2 and for sure you should get a 50-53 cfm 80mm fan for the SK6. Report back.

is your hsf on the right way round try re seating it and don't use too much as2...

I reset the heatsink... turns out i used too much of the Artic Alumina..... haha... now the temps are at 51 C full load.... still kinda high. I will try delta and report back... thanks

W/ delta, the temps at Full load are 40 C. Thats still kinda high compared to other people W/ SK6 and delta.

Well your 80mm may have a different dead spot rather than the 60mm so the 60mm would cool better, try switching back and use the thinest layer of ASII to cover the core as possible then rub the heatsink with ASII on it and then wipe it off with a dry lint-free cloth.

Remember to clean both the heatsink and the core with alcohol as well especially after you lapped it metal is still on there and remember not to touch the heatsink or core after cleaning it skin cells will effect the performance.

40C at full load is VERY good for air. Don't think otherwise. Like I said before, if you want to run an 80mm fan get at least a 50cfm.

Actually the Volcano 7 averages 40 Full Load and the SK6 is way ahead of it.

With correct cooling + lapped + good thermal compound and 300cfm+ of airflow he should be getting 37-38 full load.
