What do you all think. I cam across what sounds like an alright deal of 3 maybe more Intel 933mhz with keyboard/monitor/mouse for $25 a pop. They would be faster then my old laptop and I can hook em up to my kvm switch or do yas think it isn't worth it.
For a few $ more you can get some Dell OptiPlex 280 (or 260...) slimline systems on eBay. They have P4 2.something GHz chips in them.
Since they're slimline they don't take much space.
I've had a P3 1GHz crunching Rosetta before and it was SLOW as all get out.

They would be great to run during winter if you heat your home. Otherwise they would be a waste of electricity if they do nothing but fold. Like IS said, you can get some pretty good deals on P4 machines now.
and for just a few more $ you could go with something in the core 2 line. Either a C2D or a quad. I retired a dual Xeon setup when my E6550 was out-producing it while running SETI. (The Dually setup was similar to hitokiri's sig.)

I was just trying to save some money. I am building a new box for me with a quad core so that is where most of my money is going. I have an old dell latitude laptop with a p3 650 in it that is on it's last leg and doesn't recognize half of it's memory so I was looking to replace that with one of these posted above. It is a local sale so I don't have to pay shipping on top of it.
