I have an HP 932C - I use it all the time to print digi pix
I dunno what u'll be usin it for, but its a great printer for high rez pictures, Got it at circuit city
Mines expensive but worth it, it's a Samsung ML4500.
I love it.

For cheapness, I got a Lexmark Z42, its got both black and color cartridges, and does black text pretty well and pictures aren't bad either. I think I payed 70 bucks for it. Ofcourse, our old Epson Action Laser 1100 is still the winner for black text, and its nearly 10 yrs old..
Laser is best for text, but thats gonna be about 400 bucks...

I have had bad luck with HP printers myself, So I would never get one again. But lots of other people own them and love them. I personally would go with an Epson.

Cheaper HP inkjets aren't very reliable...someone in the office had a 648C and it claimed it ran on Win2000 but the drivers they gave, plus the updates from HP didn't seem to help...it worked like 30% of the time on Win2000 then flawlessly on Win98...
We've got a few HP 4100TN's, they're pretty nice...quick, network easy, so far reliable, but something like $1500....big printers though...

I am fond of Canon printers. Never met one I did not like and we are still using one that was purchased in about '91.
I do not like HP printers, everyone I know who has one complains about jamming problems. Also the 800 number for HP is hard to find, the want you to call a normal long distance number. The Lexmark company is a bunch of morons. I ordered a part from them, they charged me double, over $600, and did not send me the part. It took them 8 months to get it fixed.
Epson makes good printers. I only have 2 problems with them: They are more expensive that Canons and if you remove the ink tank before it is empty you ruin it.

i got a canon bjc 200 when it first came out and it's still printing reports. anyway, i've worked at office depot (mofo's) and from constantly replacing and fixing printers i would say that the z42 prints fast (in text) and the epsons were trouble makers (maybe the customers got to them). i look at it in terms of cost of ink if your going to do a lot of printing. if nu*kote makes a refill or replacement cartridge then go in that direction.

well i need a affordable/reliable printer for an induftrial app.
it needs to be able to be ready to work 24/7 365.
the program that needs it automatically prints a few reports every day. and we want it so that it needs no human intervention.
and we refuse to use hp cause the 2k drivers are horrible and they have one that allready doesnt work.
