Hey. I have a 1700+ athlon and I need a new hsf. I am not really and overcloker so I don't need to go to extremes buying a mcx462. I just need something to keep me around 38-45 range. So should I get the:

**Sk6 with YS Tech 40.1 cfm fan (Delta would be good but ppl say they are a case of tinnitus waiting to happen)

**Dragon Orb 3 7000 RPM Copper Seems like you all hate orbs but they seem like they could do the job.

** OCZ Gladiator with Delta 38 CFM fan.. (only problem is noise)

**Volcano 6cu+ 700rpm.... sounds relatively good.

Any other readily available fans around this range you want to suggest? Thanks.

Personally, I would get anything but the Dragon Orb...

I like the Volcano 6Cu+ or SK6. The D-Orb is a monstrosity.

The onyl thing I see that is wrong with the sk6 is that most sites and specs say this:

AMD: Thunderbird up to 1.33 GHz and higher Duron 850 MHz and higher

up 1.33 ghz and higher... up to and higher contradict each other. My 1700+ is 1.467gigs. will that cool it?

I have none of those but I have heard more good things about the SK6 than the others in your list.

The front page here has a lot of reviews and comparisons too.

get a hoot (http://www.overclockers.com/tips461/index02.asp) and the HS wont matter.

I have a Volcano 6 Cu+. It does the job well on my Athlon XP 1600+, 29 degrees C idle, 40 C load.

The only thing is the noise that bothers me.

I am very satisfied with my Sk6 if I were to try somthing new I think it would be the new coolermaster with heat pipe that Joe reviewed. Good bang for the buck.

Will the sk6 work with my 1.467 ghz cpu? the specs seem to say only 1.33ghz and below?

I have narrowed it to the Volcano (better value) vs. the Sk6 (sweet hs and good fan). Which would you choose for and Amd 1700+?

If I had to choose between those 2 HSF's I would choose (and this is just my personal opinion) the SK6, only I would run it with the delta 60MM 38 CFM fan. See my sig.

If you go with the SK6, your going to hate the noise more than likly because the performance that you see around is based on the Delta 38 fan. Those fans are loud as all hell! I've one at home and the gf is willing to let me get something else because of the noise (yes, I'm whipped). I good chioce and quite as well is the Millennium Glaciator II. Look at the front page and go the "Heatsink Performance Ratings" area to see where everything rates if you don't want to waste $! The Glaciator II acually performs better than the Sk6 by 2 points and is half (or more) quite.

It your $$, so good luck! :)

If you read the article (http://www.overclockers.com/tips461/index02.asp) it cost 42$

Only fan in his case, very quiet, and very easy to do.

How do you get it to moon walk?

I can barley hear mine in my Lian pc60 case Possibly the shaded pole dual blower fan cancels it out but it is fairly quite itself. My wife is pretty sound sensitive and she plays online games for hours on it and never complains about noise. I agree there are better HSF's than the SK6 but if I had to choose between the SK6 and the Volcano as he asked I would choose the SK6.:)

I dont want the delta really because the reviewers said the YS tech is only a degree or so warmer and it is not nearly as freaking loud. The reviewers pretty much agreed the delta wont be used by them. Plus I have a case fan and an hsf now that are wuiet and after I play awhile I have ringing in my ears sometimes. With delta it would sound like the liberty bell instead of jingle bells.

Here is my problem now. I am on a budget. I can't send much and prefer to buy my new stuff via eBay. actually bought my comp and everything inside there. I cannot find the glaciator. I found and sk6 with ys tech fan and a sk6 with a 19cfm crappy delta. I can buy the hs and then change fans later but I probably will stick with the quieter Ys Tech as I have the best hearing of anyone i have seen and cannot even turn my stereo half way up without it hurting. I am now debating whether to get the gladiator or sk6. They have about the same specs. (gladiator does have delta fan thought :( ) I am so obsessive about buying stuff I just need someone to TELL me which to get. TELL ME! I cant decide on my own. Ahhhhh....... omg am a prozac poster child!

i would pick up either the glaciator or glaciator ][, why deal with the noise of a 38+ cfm fan when you dont' have to?

Volcano 6cu+ if you don't plan to go into any heavy overclocking.

Or the Volcano 7.

The volcano 6cu+ isn't loud at all as it doesn't use a Delta it uses its own fan and it will cool your processor very good if you lap it and then use Arctic Silver.

Yeah the volcano is looking good. The sk6 is a bit more expensive and only puts of 2 more cfm. Both are based around copper. I really wish I just had someone ring the doorbell and hand me the perfect hsf for me and it would just work. I hjate making decisions.

I have found a heatsink that is very very similar to the sk6 and a bit less. The gladiator. GLADIATOR not glaciator. Yo all keep talking about the glaciator when I am not talking about that one. The OCZ Gladiator has an all copper (made from one piece) heatsink with a 38cfm Delta. In the tests I see at some of the websites it is only one or two degrees warmer (44 celsius) than the 462! Here is a pic: http://www.crazypc.com/images/coolers/cpu/gladfull.jpg
P.s. is the Delta really really loud? Does anyone here have the 6800rpm 38cfm model used by the gladiator?

I'm not sure what cfm rating my 7000 rpm delta has, but I keep it in the basement! And I can't hear the washing machine or dryer at the door anymore!

Of course, the side panel is off, so that doesn't help but.........LOUD!

As I said before, I have a 7,000rpm Delta on my hs and it is horrible! One other solution that you might think about is to go with a 60mm to 80mm adapter and an 80mm Sunon fan! The 80mm fans spin slower there fore putting out less dba's, but putting out more cfm in the meduim to high range of chioces. I can't find the MG II anywhere (I've been looking for 2 days) I'm thinking about just buying a good hs and doing what I just mentioned above!
