I recently purchased FarCry from Steam. The game downloaded and installed fine. I ran the config before launching the game, then tried launching the game. It refuses to launch and even after repeated uninstalls and reinstalls it will not launch. I tried going in and executing the game itself from the Steam folder only to get an error saying "This application has failed to start because MSVCP71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
I googled the issue and found it was from some kind of missing patch file for FarCry.
I have several questions about this;
1. Should I just download the .DLL file?
-Aren't there a lot of viruses at sites of that nature?
-Where would I even place the missing file anyway?
2. Try patching the file myself?
-Will this even work with Steam?
3. Am I just screwed :(
Go to the steam forums. I always have good luck finding fixes to any (albeit few) problems I've had running steam games. I will bet that you are not the only one having that same problem and there will be a thread discussing it along with a listed fix.

Just download the .dll from a site that doesn't look TOO shady. I recently had to get some obscure directx .dll to get some obscure game working. Just go ahead and get it.

Odds are you already have that .dll file on your PC somewhere if you have any other games installed. Do a search and find it (probably in one of your game folders) and copy it to the Far Cry 2 directory. If it needs another file after you put that one in the folder, just repeat the previous steps and find and copy the file into the FC2 directory.
Hope this helps!

Copy the file to Windows\system32
reboot after you copy
Also what video card are you using, FarCry needs at least a dx9 64mb video card.
did you get the latest farcry patch?

I should of made it more clear; this is the ORIGINAL Far Cry, not Far Cry 2 :p
I will try these fixes when I get home from work though.

Ahh, well my suggestion will still work with Far Cry. Just replace all my Far Cry 2's with Far Cry's.
Also, I just wanted to make sure you know not to patch your Steam version of the game with the retail patch, bad things can happen. The Steam version should be patched to the latest version. Once you can get that missing .dll file and put it in the directory, you should be fine.
