View Full Version : another pelt question
ok i just got an 80watt pelt, and i was wondering if it would help on an athlon xp1600?
Nope the xp puts out way to much heat for an 80 watt pelt to handle. If you used it you would only be creating more heat for the cpu to deal with.
Yep, 80 watters are for Intels...
dam. any ideas what to use this for?
You could run it at a lower voltage on your Northbridge if your motherboard is FSB challanged.
how would i go about doing that? and it won't frost up will it?

I haven't done this myself, but i have asked about it. not just a 1600+, but an 1800+ (which i am now not getting!!!!:mad). Diggr was pointed out someone on the forums (can't remember who) who is using an 80 watt pelt on an 1800+ with air cooling. Granted this is pushing air cooling to it's limits, and would probably be loud, but since you have a watercooling system, i think an 80 watt pelt should be enough provided you aren't going for sub 0 temps.
have fun

80watt should be good on a northbridge might even give you a better oc......

From my experience, Peltiers are a curiosity and only good if you have special needs for "colder than cold". They are very delicate and the necessary mechanical mounts and insulation to make them work are too restrictive. In a typical cpu cooling application, the power they require tends to offset any gains. My recommendation is to either go with liquid cooling or with a top of the line 100% copper heat sink with good thermal grease and the biggest fan you can live with. Good luck!
