I did it to my second Rig in my Sig and I coundn't believe that it actually worked! I did all of this while the cpu was still in the Socket. OKay! All I did was take a fine mechanical pencil and put the tip of this pencil into each of the five lazer cutted pits on the L1 bridges and twist it back and forth a few times filling each pit with a much graphite as I could get into them and then I connected all the dots to the pits. Then I put my HSF back on the chip and plugged her in. I fired the system up and walla, she still booted up at all of the the default settings because I cleared the bios before turning it on and I got 1100MHz (11 X 100MHz) which is the right multiplier for the 1700+. I put all the settings back to the way they were, at the Maximum AGP, DRAM, PCI, and Voltage levels, then at first I tried the 12X multiplier at 133MHz FSB and saved all the settings in the bios and rebooted. It took a little longer than usual to post and what I got was a 1900+ @ 1600MHz. Boy was I surprised that my first try at it really worked!!! Now I have a final speed of 1620MHz (12 X 135)completely stable in WIN XP HE and it will go no higher without WIN XP rebooting itself or showing me a stupid blue screen that halts my system at boot up. All multipliers work for me by the way but my CPU can't take the 13X and 14X multipliers with only 1.85V V-CORE max and 2.5V V-DIMM max for this old POS Mainboard. Oh well!, I'll be getting an ASUS A7V266E (VIA KT266A Chipset) with RAID probably tomarrow. Can anybody please tell me if this is a great Overclocking Mainboard or not.

Great trick with the pencil!

With that kind of luck you should buy some lottery tickets ;)

wow..... so u accualy filled the pits with the graphite from the pencil.... lol i thought that would have grounded it for sure but hey if it works it works right? good job!!

wait, does this mean that I can unlock my 1600 this way? Someone else that has money and can afford losing a processor try it with a mechanical pencil, and let me know if it works. If it works on one processor, then there should be NO reason why it shouldn't work on another! (I mean off coarse the same processor model, but two physically different ones)

Grounded it for shure? I didn't know that could of happened to it. What happens if you do ground out the chip's L1 bridges.??? I thought that there was nothing conductive inside of the pits. That's why I tryed it out. Lucky for me the darn thing kept on ticking and it still does right this very moment.

there is coper plate inside the pits that normaly would ground u out if u filled the pits with something conductive as for what would happen if u do ground it out i dont know

EDIT: i think just some wild multipliers would pop up randomly but i dont know for sure... anyone else know?

I'm thinking about doing this to my XP 1800+ that's in the Rig #1 in my sig to see if the new pencil trick for the Athlon XP will work again and my instincts tell me that it will. I would like to see this work for someone else as well and if anyone of you thinks that this is all bogus then I'll have to tell you that it's not! This is for real ladies and gents, so get unlocking with a good old pen or pencil of the most conductive kind today!:burn:

well if u can get it to work again i might give it a try with my 1600+

Yo bobt17! You have the mobo that I want to get today in your sig. Is it worth getting one or do you recommend a different mobo instead?

With the GHz speed you have right now it doesn't seem to be worth all that steady handed penciling unless you want to lower your mutiplier to 10X or 9.5X and get a higher FSB speed that's up to you to decide. I did it because I took a real good look at the L1 bridges on my XP and just knew it could be done, so I did it and it worked for me on my first try. I said to myself before I started, boy are those dots tiny and are those pits big, when I looked at them.

I unlocked my xp1700+ with bubble gum. I cant believe it works

Myself, where did you get the idea to use bubble gum to unlock a processor?!:eh?: I never would have thought of that. Is bubble gum conductive? If so, this could be the cheapest and easiest way to unlock a processor yet.

Your sig shows that you have a 2000+ not a 1700+. I can't believe that people are getting the 2000+ when the 2500+ @ 2.0GHz with the 0.13-micron processsed Throughbred and Apaloosa cores are right around the corner. You all must have alot of money to waste or you feel that AMD could use the money!

Use the pencil Luke! Connect the Dots with a graphite pencil trick without filling in the pits with anything accept graphite works on Athlon XPs! Story at Eleven.

well... this motherboard seems to take the fsb pretty good :) but it hasent got any pci divisors... i would probly recomend the epox 8kha+... not sure if thats what it is but i think so and it has lots of divisors with the beta bios i hear

oh btw did u get the pencil trick to work on ur other xp? if u did then i want to try it on mine to really push the limits of this cpu

Ok! I'll do it tomarrow which is Friday to prove that it can work again and again without damaging the cpu in any way. don't want to do it now becuz I'm too tired rite now and my writing hand is shakey when i'm tired. So friday will be interesting for me.

If you don't want to risk grounding them why don't you just loop around the Bridges?

Go around the pit to the left on 1 2 3 and 4.... just do a little bybass around the pits. It would be a little further then normal pencil tricks but shouldn't it work if you got it fine enough?

edit: bleh, no ascii art =\

I was messing around w/ my XP 1600+ and some conductive ink, well long story short, when I went to boot up the computer, each time I would get one of 3 different multiplers (7, 8, or 12):(.

After about a week of being very sad and thinking about selling this CPU to a good friend and a very very low price I decided to take another shot at it and started filling in some random L1 pits... Low and behold it locked itself at 11x

Not wanting to mess with anything else (fsb, voltage etc) Im leaving it like this untill I make some more money for a new cpu
