View Full Version : Going to raid tomorrow for the first time, quick question.
Alright, my second 250gb Seagate 7200.11 perp will be arriving tomorrow...so I'll be raiding them together. Normally I partition 40gb for Windows then the rest for my games. What I understand from the guide you make 2 raid0 volumes which take the place of your partitions in a sense, is that correct? So 2 raid0 volumes..one 40gb, the rest to whatever, when I get in Windows I just create my Games partition? Just easy like that? Oh my....what should I be expecting in terms of performance??

If you're going to do RAID0 on both partitions, why not just make the entire array a RAID0 volume? If you have the Matrix RAID available, take a look at the RAID sticky at the top.

With that board, you've got the ability to set up two raid arrays without any bothers as has been mentioned, and you'll have a degree more safety...
Have a look at the stickies... check out the Matrix thread and also the one about setting a matrix array up (with pictures).
Can I suggest that you set up a 40Gb Raid0 slice and then either leave the balance as a large raid0 chunk (if you can afford to lose what's on it) or a Raid1 (mirrorred) set.
If you go the raid1 option (for the balance after taking 20Gb off each drive foir the raid0) you'll have a really quick O/S drive, and a somewhat slower storage drive, but that probably won't be detected by you.
Have a read... have a play. Can't go too far wrong.

How did I do?
