So my PC just bit the dust, PSU works fine though. It is currently using a Fortron ATX2 500W PSU. I was wondering if this would be enough to run a modern day i7 system with a decent video card. I was looking at a 2.66ghz i7, and a GTX 280 video card, 4 gigs of ram and my current system drives ( 2 DVD drives, 4 Hard Drives).

Is 500w enough to run all this or should I buy a new bigger PSU?

Grey,

Personally, if it were me I would upgrade your power supply. You have quite a few peripherals to go with that 280 and i7 and it looks like your Fortron is a few years old. There are solid choices here, many are on good sales and they aren't that expensive compared to the equipment you want to buy.

Without looking, I don't know if your Fortron has the proper connectors for a 280GTX anyhow.

Edit: No, it doesn't. You need a 6 pin and 8 pin PCIe connectors and should really not substitute for them (IMO).

I ended up buying a new power supply anyways. Also I ended up going for an HD4870 as it was cheaper. But I appreciate the help guys.
