Just installed 2 36.7 raptors on the room mates computer in RAID 0. This is on a MSI k9n sli platinum with a 3600+ AM2 and a 8800gt.

We came from a 160G seagate or something. anyways anyone have a idea why it takes so long to load up maps?
His old hard drive was a lot faster on doing it.

What block size are you using? Have you tried defragging since you installed them? All new systems need a defrag as with all the windows updates once you install the OS and games can fragment the Hard Drives loads.

how much memory?

and +1 with the defrag, it can and probably will speed up your system loads. and the raptors in RAID 0? Should be nice and fast... Could be a raid driver issue? Is it a hardware controller or a software controller?

Not sure of the block size. Think it might of been set at 64K. When I set it I set it as optimal. How do I check? any way to in windows? hard drive has been defraged.

2 gigs of ram. Is there any matrix raid think like on intel?

nope, nvidia raid has always been, well "crap" compared to intels raid, it could just be the bad performance of nvidia raid..?

no matrix raid either

use HDTune to see the performance or HDtACH

+1 yes it's just bad performance of nvidia raid :(

How does this look?
Does not seem right to me.

Ok am i going to need to reinstall anything?

how do the numbers look on the raid?

how do the numbers look on the raid? Which Raptor version are they? If they're GD's they're somewhat OK in the STR, but crap in average access no matter which version, which should be 8ms tops. Check within the Device Manager to make sure you have write caching enabled. It's under one of the hard drive related tabs, but it's been too long to remember which one specifically.

ok ill do it when i get home. thanks.

Any way to check what block size i put on there?

You could also try and find some different drivers too, maybe even reinstall them in windows.I have tried drivers that use the same chipset, from different boards even. When you run a test, kill any background stuff so its not interfering maybe.I have raid dual raptors on an ati chipset and it def helps with map load times. You can also see just how many devices are sharing the irq of your raid.

36GB raptors are not very good by todays standards anymore either...

100MB/s burst rate used to be awesome, Single drives are doing better then that now, with STRs near the same speed.

Any way to check what block size i put on there?Block or stripe size? Stripe size(default typically 64K) is what you pick when you create the array in the BIOS, block size(default 4K) is what is chosen with a Windows OS installation. Both are fine for most users.

It looks like its gray so i cant change anything.

Ideas?

and the map load up is still a little slow.

any one know how to write caching enable?

right click your drive in my computer>properties>hardware>right click the raid array>properties>policies. There may be an easier way,but thats where mine is.

think i found it. it was under the nvidia raid thing not the hard drives. it was and is good to go.

Well I have never seen windows load up so fast in my life, COD is still dog slow. More ideas? Or is it the Nvida chip set?

Not really, but i am pretty sure that hd tune program you have does show you your stripe size.I have a 64k stripe and it is showing my block size test at that, even tho it has many choices.Options>benchmark.??

Min is higher after what you did, but nothing else changed,...

I would guess your IO bus is holding you back, if you are on an older intel (c2d/q or older) this makes sense... everything is bus limnited, so when gmaes are loading you have CPU processing talking to the ram to read from storage to load the VRAM, all of which are dependent on it.

its on a 3600+ am2 clocked to around 2.6. The problem with what you said is before it loaded it up much faster on a super slow HD.

I would skip Rade 0 or just get one big fast drive.

I would too. You wanna give me some money or give me one? With the price I paid for the hard drives its well worth it.

Could be the raid drivers, the latest are really bad performers for me. I had to use a set dated from 2005. The newer ones seemed to add a several second delay before it would access. Almost seems like a latency problem and even the Nvidia graphics drivers are very buggy and have had to roll back that driver as well.

Changing the block size in the benchmark program can change the graph dramatically.

ok where do i change the block size? nothing in the bios.

Ill change to a older driver.
Thanks

I am talking about the HD Tune benchmark, on the top right click the gears icon and on the second page you can change the block size that it tests. Mine tests best at 128 even though my stripe size is 32. You could also try HD Tach but keep in mind that HD tests have flaws with the way they mark and read arrays.

Hello i'm from Spain and i have the same problem. Isn't raid configuratio, you use ATI GPU? I put on my rig my brother 8800GTS and load very quikly but if put my 4870 ATI GPU on my rig the game load MP/SP map very slow aprox 40seconds, im waiting for a new catalyst driver.
